The front spring width is just right for a 3/4 ton Ford front end up to 1979. Only drawback will be the width of the front axle is wider than your current rear axle by about 4" so you tires will stick out on each side. You could get a matching rear axle from the donor truck killing two birds with one stone, same axle width and having the same gear ratio. Other things that might need some modifications will be the steering linkage from the steering box to the axle, shock mounts and you will have to add a lift block to the rear as the front will now sit higher with the stock springs. Of course drive shafts will need to be made up. With a divorce mount t-case you can still use your stock tranmission. If Ford front axles are hard to find you can also use a D44 or 60 from a Chevy/GMC until 87 or so as the spring width is also the same 32" center pin to center pin. A 70's frame will need to be modified to fit your wheelbase, all body mounts will need to be reworked as well but you will have the benifit of getting lift kits as well as have a newer, possibily stronger frame, power steering, motor mounts for a larger motor, ect. Either way a cool project. Keep us posted, well documented, ect ;) on 2/6/01 4:01 PM, big red at big_red_59 > Quick question for the list. I have a 59 F-250 camper special 2wd. This turned me away imediatly! Check with F-fun hundred I called last year on the new front steel fenders and they said they would be putting together a big back window kit that would have all the parts needed, steel section, glass, gasket, and stainless trim. ------------------------------ From: "big red" <big_red_59 Subject: Re: 59 F-250 Date: Wed, 07 Feb 2001 13:59:32 Thanks for the info Don. It'll be a while until I get back into the project. Too cold here in MN to work without a garage. The truck is set up for a 390 w/C-6 now. Rebuilt both about 3 years ago and still not reinstalled to get running. Has the original Dana 60 w/4.56 gears I'd like to keep also. Had too many other projects to do on my other daily drivers and had another project started, but later sold. I think I'll start my search for a front axle and see what I can do about making a susp. lift work. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ From: "big red" <big_red_59 Subject: 59 F-250 Date: Wed, 07 Feb 2001 14:13:05 Another question. I just noticed that on the pics on the FTE web site the other 59 F-250's don't have the wrap around rear window. They just have a small one. Anyone know if this was an option or for camper specials only or do I have a wierd truck? Never noticed that until just now and I've had the truck for 9 years now. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ From: "Ann Wasserman" <meshugga Subject: Re: 59 F-250 Date: Wed, 7 Feb 2001 12:06:56 -0800 THE WRAP AROUND WINDOW WAS A CUSTOM CAB OPTION, I HAVE A FACTORY 4X4 1959 TRUCK. I have later standard wheels (16") on my 54 f250. They work fine. Ch--y wheels have a smaller center hole and will not go over the rear floating axle extension. The bolt pattern is the same for all. I noticed a post on the classifieds that seemed to indicate the wheels from the new super duties may not work. I don't know about that.
