What we do for rust is fight it constantly. If its on a vehicle or a part that must be saved, we have used the POR system - I think its POR 15, POR 30. If its on our buildings or equipment housings, we paint on Ospho from the hardware store after scraping off the loose flakes and apply the best "rust proof" paint we can buy. POR products are not cheap, but they seem to work. Any uncoated metal will oxidize around here unless it's coated, covered or sealed. We oil our headers as soon as they are detailed, enroute across the shop to the shipping area! We cover our tools on the tool carts. We clean all the nooks and crannies and try never to let the mud and vegetable debris settle or pack against metal. There are two other companies that offered 4x4 for 1956 trucks they are NAPCO which are generally found on Chevys and the other is Coleman. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Oct 2000 11:08:16 -0700 (PDT) From: Dan Lee <danlee_58 Subject: Batteries The battery in my '53 is 37 months old. It is an autostore 75? month battery. When then truck sits for a couple of days, it doesn't start without a charge. I know that the battery has reached its 36 month life, in spite of the guarantee. I could take it back to where I bought it, and get a few bucks off on another POS(piece of s**t). I would rather spend a little more and get a battery that will hold up for longer, as I have no intention of ever replacing the vehicle. Does anyone have any input on battery brands that I should consider. Is Optima any good or just another gimmick? How about Interstate? I like the idea of a sealed unit. I don't need corrosion in my battery box. Also I may go to a side terminal unit and use #2 AWG or #1 AWG cables.
