I was having this problem and couldn't figure it out until last month when I heard the wonderful sound of metal snapping. Upon inspection I discovered that one of the pins on the driver's side that holds the hing and hood together had snapped. Amazingly, the hood now opens like it did when I first bought my truck years ago. Now I just need to get a replacement pin and install it (remove the hood since no clearance). I hope you make out better on your truck. Lee S. '50 F-1 FORDever Flathead ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2000 19:03:17 -0500 From: Chris/Jennifer Chambers <cjmc Subject: vin? Quick question guys,.... My brother-in-law just bought a 56 pickup, finally. WE need to know if the vin is stamped on the frame anywhere so we can match it up with the title. He is concerned that everything on the truck be legit. There is a plate on the door jamb that someone added on there and the number on it does not match the title. Is this going to be a problem? As always, any and all help is greatly appreciated. -Chris 60 panel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2000 19:00:13 -0700 From: Dan Wentz <dwentz Subject: Who IS Parting Out a Truck? Recently a couple people have posted saying that they were parting out trucks. 51's I think. I've forgotten who you are but I'd appreciate it if you could email me. I'm looking for a battery tray/pedestal for a V8. Thanks. ~Dan 1950 F1 351C--Not neglected and definitely not for sale. Persistence is futile. 1998 Explorer--With tires made in NC. Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2000 21:27:35 -0500 Chris, The vin is stamped on the top of the drivers side frame rail. One of the things with builder vehicles is that they are built with mix and match parts. Consiquently the numbers don't always match. Bodies and frames get swapped, cabs and frames get swapped around, frames get subframed, new doors get hung, cab pillars get replaced, and through the course of all this the original numbers can get lost in the shuffle. I would not worry about it too much, just make sure that the number on the frame matches the number on the title. It is also advisable to put the vin number in several locations around the vehicle. As the old saying goes,"possession is 90% of the law". Do your best to protect your truck from thieves. Can anyone please tell me where I can find inner fenders with a battery tray already in them. My 56 has a huge non-ford engine and for that reason, a good place for the battery is very important. I like to install it in the original location, but the seat will be on the way Any suggestions. Another option is a drop down battery tray. That's what I have in my 55. It keeps the battery in more or less the original location but gives you access from underneath. Sac Vintage carries those as well. ---------- From: O'Connell, Dennis M [SMTP:DMO1 Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2000 8:54 AM To: 'pre61-list Subject: [pre61-list] Re: Relocating Battery?
