Hard to say isn't it! What about the frame cross member. Does' that have to be moved? I hate to trash my nice new aluminum fuel cell, but I would really rather have the tank under the bed on my 55. Also, on the ford, chevy, etc.. issue. I put a ford in my Ford because I think it's right. If I built a Chevy I would put a Chevy in it. Plus, out here in Calif. there are so many chevy's in roadsters, etc.. that people are thrilled to see a Ford in a Ford. This one ought to generate some interesting answers. I suspect as a vibration damper. Similar weights are used by Ford on some Mustang rear axles on Crown vic. exhaust pipe hangers, and no doubt in other areas. 47 Fred == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Sep 1999 14:14:26 -0400 From: Fred g 454 Subject: Re: FTE Pre61 - gas tanks Dennis, Yes the rearmost cross member has to be moved back about six inches to give you the necessary room. If I recall it's four rivets to punch out and four grade 8 bolts go back in. Maybe you could mount the new fuel cell down there? I am in need of 1958 Ford side hood emblems. I have checked with Sacramento Vintage, Obsolete Ford, Dan Carpenter, Bob's F-Fun-Hundreds, etc ... I have the "arrow"/"rocket" portion of them, although mine are a little pitted, but I do not have the F100 piece. This is one of the LAST of the parts I have been searching for, and I'd truly appreciate any help. I currently have a 223 I6 and a three speed on the tree, thinking of changing to 460 v8 with a C6. Will also change front clip to IFS and the rear end ti a 9" ford. The truck ran well 65 - 70 with no problems. Now to the Question Let me know your thoughts on this change? I been reading this list for about 6 months and I want it input. thanks George 55 F100 68 Cougar == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Sep 1999 19:40:39 EDT From: RJC988 Subject: FTE Pre61 - Hotels! I just want to thank everyone who responded to my call for help with my 12-volt conversion problems. You were all extremely helpful and right on. The problem with no spark was that I needed to reverse the wires on the coil. The problem with the starter button appears to be that it is somehow grounded diffferent than the solenoid. I don't have a solution to that problem yet. However, when I use the remote starter button, it starts right up. Thank you, all!
