My little truck gets up and goes down the road 65 to 75 with no problem. If I had a higher 4 gear it would do even better. I starting a change to a 460 big block with a c6 tranny. Any advice? Shades of the Past Rod Run in Pidgeon Forge is Sept 10 - 12, over 5,000 vvehicles, many vendors, but this is pre 1949 show. Not sure what year you're looking for. Turkey Run in Daytona at the speedway Nov. 25 - 28. 5,000 registered vehicles, over 3,000 vendors in swap meet. (I never miss this one - great show) You might want to check with some of the major vendors see what their show schedule is. Good luck. To me, I'd go over all the under frame joints real good, and make sure that everything is reasonable snug and greased, then check that the king pins are good. At that point I'd have to ask myself real hard, "Do I like the way it goes"? Next step depends on the answer. >> My 55 does the same thing. I got GREATLY improved steering by putting the truck up on stands and spending two ENTIRE days going through every part of the front and rear suspension. I didn't replace anything, just lubed, tightened, and adjusted. I did rebuild the wheel cylinders and bleed the brakes. I also found that my truck only came to me with 2 or 3 zerk fittings. It sure was tough trying to get the grease gun to shoot gooo into those empty holes! Replaced everything that was missing and lubed every single joint. Found out that the steering box was loose and flopping around about 3/8" (nobody to blame but myself as I put the 56 box in it), a couple of U-bolts were marginally tight, I have one worn kingpin.. It goes on and on. Anyway. After spending the entire freaking weekend rolling around in the dirt. I took off down the road and almost ran into the neighbors house. Zero play in the steering, no wander except on ruts (remember the bad king pin), and steering effort was so much lighter, my fiance' could drive it (that will NEVER happen). It lasted 2 weeks...... So guess what I'm doing this weekend? The public is allowed in Wednesday, setup day, and you can get some choice pieces that day which would be gone the following days. The drawback is that not everybody is set up, so to see it all you need to retrace your steps the next day, and its darn hard to walk the whole place in one day. I've gone up Wednesday-Thursday, and Thursday-Friday, and I'm undecided which is the better pair of days. In the spring there was a guy there from somewhere in the midwest with a LOT of sheetmetal, really nice unrusted stuff, but he wasn't done setting up halfway through the first official day, and was in no mood to talk or bargain. Wanted $200 for a rear '51-'52 bumper which was a bit steep in my ever-so-humble opinion. Last year, before I knew you could go up on setup day, I found a guy who had sold a complete '51 fresh air heater, and a chrome grill, on setup day. I was pissed. Anyway, its not a truck-only show, but Dennis Carpenter is always there (or DC Reproductions, as he's now known), and a bunch of other suppliers. If you know what you need and who you'd like to buy it from, they'll bring it with them all wrapped up and save you shipping. Fairlane Fiberglass is always there, usually with show specials on something or other, and you can compare their quality with some other cheaper fiberglass vendors. You'll see why they're cheaper. I could go on and on, but I already have. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Sep 1999 17:55:11 -0400 From: "Bill Robinson" Subject: Re: FTE Pre61 - '49 front fender needed desperately!
