Thought I would try the list one more time to see if anyone has ever heard or tried the combo. I have been told that it will bolt right in and even the spring pads match up. The only draw back being the strength of the axle itself is not up to the 9. The positive being they are a dime a dozen as opposed to the 9's. Help? Mine has this arrangement, and I was wondering if the smaller tires make steering easier. I like the bigger tires and need to replace the front tires on my truck but before I do this I am curious as to whether it will make it more difficult to steer at low speeds or if this arrangement is just for show. Subject: FTE Pre61 - Flathead back at work I just wanted to try (and practice) if anyone would understand, but some people canīt wait to complain, Itīs just a message!!! It is great to hear a Flathead coming back to life, and more after that long time finding one, cleaning it, doing the wiring, etc, etc... After some time setting things up, we put a battery and started the ī53 flatty yesterday. It just couldnīt run better. We got it to about 1800 RPM for about 1 1/2 minutes in an engine stand I just made, with no mufflers. The sound was great. Thatīs what got me into this hobby. We let it cool and started it back again till it ran out of gas. You had to see the face my dad made after all that long time since he worked and started a Flathead. We had the stock gauges from my ī51 connected to the engine, they all worked (except the fuel gauge), but I wanted to ask you how much yours read, just to compare. We did have one problem, the same some of you had, the battery cables we used where too long and it wouldnīt turn, so we got shorter cables and now it turns as it should. The fuel pump appears to be letting gas into the crankcase, where can I get a rebuild kit from? Not bad for an engine sitting in a barn for as long as only god knows. It was just $250. To all who are happy to hear about another 58 getting closer to the road: Closer to the end ! This past weekend we transported my completely rebuilt/repowered 390 from my uncle's basement to my dad's garage in preparation of putting it in/on my frame. In addition to the motor (bored an extra 0.060" of stock), my C6 is nearly completely ready as well (B&M kit). We also decided to go for the "low-buck" bedwood kit (courtesy of Mother Nature, and another uncle), opting to remove a few of the tamarack trees from the swamp on my uncle's property. The first log came out okay (32'+ in length, I paced off 4-8' spans), but the second tree (60' or better, 24" base) gave us some trouble and cost my uncle's '78 F150 4x4 (351) a transfer case. (I turned to my uncle and started singing, 'I fought the log, and the log won' - hey at least we can laugh about it...) That tree decided it was staying where it was for the time being. Fear not, gentle readers, we have reinforcements - a '74 F250 4x4 (429, and 36" mudders), lots of chains, and another '78 F150 4x4 (300-S6 with 38" mudders). We lost the battle, but we'll win the war !!! Sandblasting and primering should be started by the end of the month. Re-assembly will hopefully occur without too much hassle in September. Wish us luck - we need it. Recently I was in Colorado Springs when a bright orange truck caught my eye. I drove by and checked it out. Imagine my surprise when I found a 1960 F350 Dualie Tow-Truck for sale. I stopped back a little later to ask about it. The guy bought it ten years ago, fixed it up enough to put it on the road and has been using it around town ever since (for its intended us, towing cars). He had a rebuilt 360 put under the hood about a year ago, and all the electronics & winches (5/8" cables) and everything still works. The guy (60-70 yrs old) recently suffered a heart attack and has been asked by his family to get rid of it, because people take advantage of his good nature and good truck. I have some pictures of it if anyone's interested. He was asking $3500 for it. I have an uncle in the "salvage" business, and he said that for a working tow truck, that's VERY reasonable, considering everything: vintage, equipment, engine. I have no affiliation with this man, other than the one meeting I had two months ago. I apologize if anyone feels this is an inappropriate use of this list.
