I felt a difference and really glad I went that route. ALso makes the engine bay area more "performance appealing" which for a small block I liked. Good Luck Jim 54 F100 Can anyone tell me of a good source for headers for the 292? Is this a worthwhile addition ie. significant, noticeable, horsepower increase? Any suggestions? >> == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Aug 1999 08:56:37 -0700 From: Mel Subject: FTE Pre61 - Maverick Rear end Hi all, judging from the lack of response about my putting a 3.50 1970's Maverick rear end on my 53 F-100 not too many people have tried it. I was told it bolts right up and is very cheap if you don't need the strength. I will check out a couple of yards and let you all know what I find out. Gehres" Subject: FTE Pre61 - F4 Tubeless Wheels I recently saw an F4 (1949) at the Monroe, Washington, swap meet. It had tubeless 19 inch steel wheels on the original hub bolt pattern. One fellow with the truck stated that he thought the wheels came from an "early motor home". He didn't know what year or make other than that it was a Ford chassis. Does anyone know about these wheels and IF they are still available new. Sure looked good on that very nicely done F4, and also got around the safety issue of the original split rims. Are 19 inch tires easily available? Seems like I have seen some around. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Aug 1999 14:13:03 -0700 (PDT) From: Dan Lee Subject: FTE Pre61 - Re:Headers on 292 V8 Steve, Try Sanderson 800-669-2430 for 'Y' block headers. Headers are a good performance upgrade for any engine. Street Rodder Mag. has been running a series of articles called "Why not a 'Y' block." I have been following it because I built a couple of them when they were the only Ford OHV V8's. Today I wouldn't put good money into one, not because they are bad but because there are better choices. However if you are into nostalgia and isn't everyone on this list, go for it. Boyd" Subject: FTE Pre61 - 53 F-100 Panel for sale Hi folks! Back from lurking in the background (and moving from Atlanta!). Just setteled into Raleigh and finally got my garage set to receive the 53' panel that I've sent off to the bodyman for restoration. While reading the July 25 Raleigh News and Observer, I found the following ad under Autos, Classic and Specialty: FORD F-100 '53, Panel Truck, red Offenhauser equipped flat- head V-8, restored to original. The price and the gentleman's phone number are in the ad, but I think that I should show a little discresion and ask that if any one is interested to drop me a line directly and I'll forward both along. I called and spoke to the man. He seemed to be a very nice guy. He's had the truck as long as he's been married! (about 20 years I think he said). He also said that there are several other parts and such laying around the garage he needed to get rid of and would call me when they came available. I'll keep you'all posted. Another truck that he mentioned needing to part with was a late model Lightning pickup, but he didn't mention the year. If I find out any more, I'll let you'all know. Later!
