If the '51 is identical to my '52, the starter button wiring is:

one side to the circuit breaker post which has the voltage regulator and
ignition
wires on it (lower right hand post)

the other side goes to the middle terminal of the starter solenoid

Hope this helps - Bruno

Tom my 51 and I are green with envy.... I wish the truck still had the flat
head..

Hmm...Maybe after I rebuild the 302 I should paint it green. I know the 51
flat head is supposed to be red. So the 35 was the 35 green?

According to http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.agt.net/public/bboogaar/engine_colour_list.htm,
Ford V8 engines were dark green through 1940. In 1941, Mercury and truck
engines were dark blue, and by 1946 all engines were dark blue. Then Ford
switched to a veritable rainbow of colors in the early 50's: bronze, green,
red and tangerine were used on various models.

I thought the early Y blocks were yellow, and most restored Thunderbirds
I've seen had red engines. I don't think Ford settled on 'corporate blue'
for engine blocks until the mid 60's.

I have a '53 F100 that someone else restored about 3 years ago. Some of the
bed bolts are painted and some are not. What should I be doing?

Thanks, Ken Craig

That's weird. I've always thought of them as ground switches. Mine
('51, same as I remember my '52) has one wire, pushing the button grounds it.
It had a non-stock two-wire switch in it when I got it, one went to ground.
Starter solenoid has two fat lugs, one each side, and one small one
in the front, which goes to the starter push button.
Some time ago a list member posted mail noting the danger of the
stock starter button - the fact that it can be used anytime, regardless of
ignition key position, so your neighbor's kid can come over and push the
switch while you're under the front end with jackstands, but rear wheels on
the ground ...

Hello all
I want to have a Volare front end put under my 52 F-1. I'm keeping
the flathead. Has anyone done this? Does the Volare steering box come in a
non power unit? Will the new cross member clear the oil pan on the flathead?
Did you use your stock steering column? How low does your truck sit with this
setup at the front bumper? To many questions..........

My '51 has the same setup. Pushing the starter switch
grounds the starter solenoid to the dash. The
solenoid has three posts: negative battery terminal,
starter, starter switch.

Just to let everyone know how things are progressing on the 56 M100 big =
back window project. I ordered my personalized plates and the will be =
"56MERRC" as 56 Merc was already taken. I've been looking for a set of =
ram-horn exhaust manifolds for the last 8-years. Today I just purchased a =
57 C-750 Big Job truck with the ram-horn exhaust manifolds for, can you =
believe this $ 50.00 I first offered $ 50.00 for just the manifolds but =
the owner said he would sell the complete truck for $50.00 it last ran =
about 5 years ago. The motor is still loose, and I hope to get it to my =
fathers farm by this weekend. If it does run I think I will let them use =
it. Because I've located another pair of ram-horn manifolds for $ 50.00. =
I've been running adds in the local newspapers and it finally paid off. =
Kinda funny how I found a set by chance.
One thing that is delaying my project is, im still looking for a 3-speed =
O-D tranny preferably out of a 56 F100. Has anyone had a truck like this? =
how reliable is this tranny? Does anyone have one for sale. I do still =
have those 3/4 ton tailgates for sale, the are both in excellent condition.=
one is a FORD the other is a MERCURY. Im open to offers on them.=20

What do you think should I send in a picture of the C-750 for the =
pictorial ?

One last thing I will be attending the Dash to the dells truck show in =
Wisconsin this fall it is held on September 17 and 18. Will any list =
member be attending this show we should try to get together to meet and =
talk trucks ?

"56Merc"
