Great Job!!!! I have two questions concerning my 53 F100. I have readjusted and aligned the Volare' front clip. It is now in the weeds. (Looks great) Now the rear is about 5 inches too high. Looking at the stock rear end, the axle bolts to the bottom of the springs. I removed the 3 bottom leafs and replaced them on top of the other leafs which lowered it about 3 inches and smoothed up the ride slightly. My question is, is there a problem relocating the rear axle to rest on top of the leaf springs. Looks to me that this would lower it the width of the axle & leafs and would set just about where I want it. Anyone done this? Everything is in great shape and I would rather not replace with mono leafs etc. Last question, anyone have a 3:00/3:50 to 1 rear end to swap for my 4:11 to 1 rear end? I am in the Spokane, WA area. I'd like to get better highway cruising out of her. Thanks, Mel Silva == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Dec 1998 16:36:45 EST From: Flathead52 Subject: Re: FTE Pre61 - Re: Thanks, swap & relocate rear axle Mel I did this axle flip on my '52 F-1. I had to "c" channel the frame to have enough clearance for the axle tube to clear the frame. I also removed every other leaf in the spring pack. I had ten to start with. This got the truck down were I wanted it, But then I had a problem with the top of the third member hitting the bottom of the bed. I'm going to take care of this with a small hump in the middle of the bed. Works for me, It was the look I wanted and I don't haul anything in it anyway == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Dec 1998 19:13:53 EST From: RJC988 Subject: FTE Pre61 - 60 Battery Tray In a message dated 12/27/98 10:34:47 AM !!!First Boot!!!, owner-pre61-list- digest From: "bond james bond" Subject: [none] the battery tray for my 60 F-100 has totally rusted out it mounts to the firewall does anyone know of someone who carries these, or if anyone has one from a parts truck I would be interested thanks shandy REMEMBER: If the women don't find you handsome; They should at least find you handy >> I have a 57 with much of the same problem. I have seen many in catalogs that say they are NOS, but they don't look like what I have. Mine has a tray that has a vertical brace on each side mounted by 6 bolts. The ones I have seen in catalogs has only one brace on the right hand side (I think!) Which is right? Also I have seen many under-the-bed trays. Has anyone had any experience with these? I might have found a bracket to mount my rear axle at SoCal. How are they with delivery/service? Everyone suggests the 9" Ford. It will be a daily driver, with occasional towing of a 3500# boat. Also recommended are the 351 Windsor & mechanical OD automatic. If this is the right track, is SoCal P/Ups the best source? They seem a bit expensive, but it is mostly a bolt-in. Thanks for your input. Mike == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Dec 1998 04:22:10 -0500 From: Ken Payne Subject: FTE Pre61 - ADMIN: New classifieds and banners Two announcements: 1. Our new classifieds manager is on line. Check it out. Its free. Although it says it supports photo ads, that feature has been disabled (FTE is not a classifieds site so I don't want to focus a lot of energy maintaining photos). In the future, we'll turn on keyword notify; this feature means that you can have the classifieds email you whenever a keyword you select appears in a new ad. It you want photo ads, check out http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.classics4sale.com/, they're one of our sponsors and they have a pretty good truck selection up to the 1970s. If anyone knows of a similar site for newer trucks, feel free to post the URL. 2. Each pictorial page now pulls up a banner ad. These banners will not be used by advertisers! I don't think it would be ethical to advertise on pages featuring your trucks. Rather, the banner ads will be used to notify visitors of FTE's free services such as the classifieds, email groups, bbs, etc. This should help newcomers. On a final note (not an FTE announcement), there is now a Ford truck newsgroup: alt.trucks.ford . Some of you may find it helpful, so far it doesn't seem to be a spam target. Its new so your Usenet server may not have it. Please ask your provider about it as it is not an FTE service.
