May I suggest placing poison in a container with an opening large enough for a mouse to enter, but small enough to prevent your pets from getting at the bait? I used 3-pound coffee cans with the lids tack-soldered back in place and a 1-inch hole cut in the top, and placed them high in the rafters away from the item in storage. You may be able to find something pre-made at your local hardware or pet-feed store. I don't like to poison animals, but rats and mice can ruin a project in a very short time, taking insulation, upholstery, etc. for nest-building. Be sure to remove the cadavers often to prevent your pets from eating them. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Nov 1998 08:56:12 -0800 From: Karl Cunningham Subject: FTE Pre61 - Protecting my classics from mice in storage. . . Terry -- I think the metal flashing does work. I've seen it used on buildings and tree trunks with success. But mice and rats can jump -- perhaps 2 feet high in the case of rats -- so you'd have to have your car and truck pretty high in the air. Keep the doors, windows, and vents shut on the vehicles. Put screen over the air cleaner intakes as these are favorite places for mice to nest. Traps are effective -- I recently caught 14 rats in one weekend with 3 traps. But there's an almost endless supply of rodents out there, so it's a continual battle. I think the best offense against rodents (short of poison) is cats. They have the patience and can get into pretty small places to catch them. Good luck, Karl Cunningham karlc 1960 F250 factory 4x4 (parked in the grove with the rodents) == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Nov 1998 16:36:27 EST From: RJC988 Subject: FTE Pre61 - FYI Guys, I got this reply from Gary Pratt of Truckin' and Classic Trucks Magazines. I know this topic has been on before: Have talked with Mark before, he's legitimate FYI and any one else in the chat group, I have all the info on deciphering Ford codes and can pass on if anyone needs Also have ID plates too TTYL Gary> Gary's email is Folio4ever Glenn in TN Soapy the 57 F-100 == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Nov 1998 17:33:37 -0500 From: "Reynaud, Sean" Subject: FTE Pre61 - Bench seat for a 57 F350 I recently salvaged a 57 F-350 from my grandfather's farm. However, the mice and squirrels had gone to town and decimated the bench seat that was in the truck. I am looking for a replacement and was wondering if some more modern (70's-80's-90's??) bench seats will fit. I am just looking for something more comfortable than the milk crates that I am using. If so, I maybe able to duplicate the pattern. So Cal has a nice system that I considered installing......but after some time to think it all over, decided to redo the worm and secter in the stock steering. Man, what a difference! Not sure I would consider the aftermarket stuff now. Just a thought, hey.....it's your baby......ciao, bill batte == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Nov 1998 21:47:05 -0700 From: "Ray Cardogno" Subject: Re: FTE Pre61 - Protecting my classics from mice in storage. . . I have a cat who's primary residence is my un-heated remote garage that houses my panel truck. Unfortunately she goes out and catches the mice and then brings them back to the garage to "play" before she eats them. I've seen some get away and run under shelving etc. I only have to hope that they will smell her presence and clear out asap. I also take a box of moth balls and fling the whole boxful into the interior. They are gone in the spring. I find that if you can repel them in the fall they find other places to stay for the winter. ray c Angelfire for your free web-based e-mail. http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.angelfire.com == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Nov 1998 22:10:49 -0700 From: "Ray Cardogno" Subject: FTE Pre61 - chat/crash Is anyone else having problems with Netscape crashing trying to open the new chat system.
