A persistent problem since I installed the recycling yard engine has been a noisy valve lifter. At first the lifter was noisy all the time. When I pulled the valve cover, there was enough valve lash to suggest the lifter was stuck in a completely collapsed state. I put one of the oil solvent-type products in to see if that would get it. Now, when I start the engine cold, it is quiet for 3 or 4 minutes, then it starts chattering again. What course of action is best here? Should I buy one lifter to replace the bad one, or should I replace the whole set while I'm there? Will I damage my cam by switching lifters? I've heard that cam and lifters need to be matched new and broken in. I suppose, once I get the intake off, I could find some other thing going on, but I'm trying to think this through as well as I can now, so I can spend my time working on it when break rolls around, not sitting at the kitchen table pondering the possibilities with a cold cup of coffee. Thanks, people. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 10:33:54 -0800 (PST) From: Scott Subject: FTE Pre61 - interesting ford news I know this isn't a pre 60 truck but I thought most of you would like to hear about it: " Ford says its new pickup, the SVT F-150 Lightning, capable of 225 km/h, is the world's fastest truck. The list price is $39, 995. A truck so fast the cops can't catch it is coming soon to a highway near you. Top speed of the Ford SVT F-150 Lightning is 225 km/h. "Oh, my gosh," said RCMP Const. Terry Sorenson of Merritt, who patrols the Coquihalla Highway in a Chevrolet Caprice with a 350 LT1 engine from the Corvette. "Our cars wouldn't be able to catch them directly." Ford bills the Lightning as the world's fastest truck. The 5.4-litre eight-cylinder engine produces 360 horsepower at 4,750 rpm. Neither Dodge nor GM have anything above 300 horsepower. Lightnings began rolling off the assembly line in Oakville, Ont., on Monday. Sales manager Dave Michnik says he's driven the Lightning at 160 km/h on the Las Vegas Speedway. "You don't know you're in a truck," said Michnik. "It just handled unbelievable." Prepared by Ford's Special Vehicle Team, the truck has a supercharger to cool the air so the engine produces more horsepower. Ford's SVT Mustang is faster than the Lightning, but only because it's lighter. _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 19:49:04 -0700 From: "Paul Clegg" Subject: FTE Pre61 - RE: License Plate Question Does anyone on the list know of a source for vintage license plates? I am about to register my (mostly) restored 1948 Ford F-1. I noticed while surfing the Utah Department of Motor Vehicles site this morning that I may be able to use an original set of (Utah)1948 plates to legally register my truck. I may be mistaken, but I am going to check it out. Thanks, Paul Clegg, paulc == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ End of pre61-list-digest V3 #81 ******************************* +- Ford Truck Enthusiasts - 1948 - 1960 Trucks and vans --------------+ | Send posts to pre61-list To access the rest of this feature you must be a logged in Registered User Of Ford Truck Enthusiasts
