If any of you are mystified by an exceptionally long post to the last Pre-'61 list, well.... I sent that to the wrong address. However, since the posting invlolves the upcoming Pigeon Forge show and some other things, I guess all I can do is ask for your input! - -- Don Neighbors '54 F250 Named Grover "Any dropped tool or part will automatically fall into the most innaccesible part of the vehicle." grover == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Jan 1999 10:10:17 EST From: GILASAILR Subject: Re: FTE Pre61 - Rust Removal Darcy. Do not use a disk or belt sander on stamped sheet metal. Try a good random orbital (Dewalt 421) or similiar. If the rust is not particularly heavy you may get by with plastic media blasting and light orbital sanding. I bought this truck and it was supposedly converted from 6 to 12 volts. There is a thing on the firewall. Will all of the gages, horns, etc., automatically accept 12 volt neg. system when they were originally configured for a 6 volt pos. ground? NE how. I was out today looking at a 54 F-250 and happend to notice a fourty something F-6. I have done partial restorations (mostly handing tools to my dad :) on vehicles from 50's and 60's, but know nothing of ones from the 40's. Can someone tell me all the good stuff about this like where the numbers are to find the engine size, year and stuff. what kind of engine these normaly had (if there was a standard) and anything else that may be of interest to someone just starting out again. Thanks alot! - -Dave == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Jan 1999 05:20:39 -0500 From: "David M. Gatz" Subject: FTE Pre61 - Fenders and running boards Need to know if the fenders and running boards from a 54 F350 would be the same as a 56 F350 . I have also been told F100 fenders are the same except for the wheel opening is smaller. Fenders from F100-350 are the same depending on the size of the wheels. The 350 had wheel size options so the fenders will be different in the wheel houses as a general rule. F350-600 fenders will interchange. I have found that 350s that had 17" wheels and the larger opening fenders like the 500-600 series. 16" wheels on a 350 most likey had the pickup fenders on them. but you never can tell what happened on the assembly line. I'm looking to drop a 351 in my 57 F100 and because of the 3:70 gears I want to use an automatic OD trans. My question is which one and what year should I use, no racing, just an occasional trailer to pull. I'm gonna be running a carb and no computer, and I want the simplest way out. Is there only a kickdown cable and a vacuum modulator to worry about like on a C4 or is it more involved than that?
