I am having bad rust problems with my '52 F-3 cab. The rear bottom cab corners are rusted out, the floorboard is rusted out in the front and rear sections and the pillar area on the passenger side has a small rustout too. Would it be better to replace the cab than to try and do a lot of repair welding? Will a F-1 cab swap out with an F-3? HELP!!! I am facing a similiar situation with my 53 F600. I have been told that the basic cab for a particular model year is the same, so the F1 cab will replace the F3. However, unless you find an excellent cab you still will probably still need to do some repair. I researched the cost of buying repair panels versus buying a different cab and it was less expensive to just buy the panels. PWPTRUCK1 > I am having bad rust problems with my '52 F-3 cab. I replaced my badly rotted f-100 cab with one from an f-600 firetruck. No problems at all every thing was the same except front fenders and grill (f-6 uses much larger tires). cant see why ford would have done any different in '52. ms 1953 f-100 == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Oct 1998 16:36:49 -0700 (PDT) From: "Royal H. Maul" Subject: FTE Pre61 - Ford 8" Rear-end question I have a 1950 F-2 that I am planning to put a C4 tranny and an 8" read-end behind the flathead. I have a rear-end from a '67-'70 Mustang. The spring pads center to center and the backing plate to backing plate measurement are identical to the original rear-end. Is this a good rear-end to use? Also, I don't know what the gear ratio is. The ring gear has 39 teeth and the pinion has 13 teeth. Can anyone help? I want to put one in my '50 F-1 that I am slowly putting together. I saw a post the other day regarding the use of brake drums off a '70 rear end on the front spindles. I have done this and have lots of miles on them. I found that I needed to trim 1/8" off of the lip of the drum that goes inside the backing plate lip. On some setups it barely rubs the backing plate. The original rear end is the split housing type that carries a 4:86 ratio. Not a very good choice for highway driving, but could be used to pull trees out by the roots. I am going to use a rear end that comes out of a early 70's Ford one ton. My ratio will be around 4:11 which is ok. One thing to keep in mind here: the flathead of those years only makes around 100 horsepower. If you go too high on the gears, It may be very hard on the motor and wear the tranny down pretty fast. If I was doing the job you are, My main concern would be the highway gears in the 'stang axle. I would imagine highway gears, around 3:70, are in the housing. I can't promise that a 'stang rear end won't work, but if it was me, I would stick with nothing higher than a 4:11 if you plan to keep the flathead in the truck. Good luck. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Oct 1998 19:25:31 -0700 (PDT) From: Scott Subject: Re: FTE Pre61 - 52 F-1 to F-3?? - ---PWPTRUCK1 > > I am having bad rust problems with my '52 F-3 cab.
