Ainey" Subject: Re: FTE Pre61 - 39 torque tube I agree it sounds odd. It could be something in the transmission. Every time I've had the problem the tranny has been in neutral. When I tried to move the truck (push) it would act just like it was in gear. I didn't try to put it in gear with the clutch in. If I rocked the truck back and forth for awhile, it would then come free. Sometimes with a small pop after which it would roll fine. I towed it 11 miles after one of these episodes with no problem. I think it's either the front u-joint or something in the tranny. Either way the torque tube is probably going to have to come off. Unless it's easier to pull the engine forward. While I have not made it to the Fall meet before, if it is like the Spring meet, it is a general show, with an accent on swap meet, rather than a strictly truck show. It would be a great meeting place for some of us in the northern reaches who can't make Atlanta this year. If any of you are interested, let me know, and we'll get together Saturday the 12th. If we can't all get together at the same time, look for a "well fed" guy with light brown hair, a reddish beard and a "Grover" t-shirt in the vicinity of a Tempo and a Kelty tent, or somewhere in the swap area looking longingly at something he can't afford! - -- Don Neighbors '54 F250 Named Grover "Any dropped tool or part will automatically fall into the most inaccessible part of the vehicle." grover == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Aug 1998 13:04:59 EDT From: FRD56F100 Subject: FTE Pre61 - Redoing IFS I have a 56 F100 which has been subframed with a camaro IFS however the job was not done right. I want to replace it with another suspension but this time I want to use a Ford IFS so I can use a 460 motor. It is going to be hard to do since first I have to remove the camaro IFS. Can somebody tell me what donor car will be best to use? I currently have a 77 Grand Marquis that I could use but the subframe looks too wide. Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Can I take it apart & reinstall the needle? What lubricant would you recommend? Has anyone purchased a rebuilt speedo head from ant of the parts suppliers? Do they repaint the face if needed? Are you happy with it? 2- I'm looking for a set of 3 chrome bezeled gauges with a mounting panel (oil pressure, amps or volts, water temp.) & thought someone might have a set for sale that they never used?? 3 - I found some chrome valve covers for my 292 Y-block & need chrome acorn nuts to fasten them down. Anyone know of a source or have some they'd be willing to part with?? Thanks a million! (there should be no reason to disconnect the spring from the shackles) == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Aug 1998 17:19:49 -0400 From: Paul Subject: FTE Pre61 - 99 Pigeon Forge Does anyone know who actually sponsers the May Pigeon Forge show? We used some light machine oil in the speedometer head and liquid graphite in the cable: more of our noise seemed to be in the cable, not the head unit.
