I would like go to a Mustang II/Pinto Power Rack and Pinion steering. I would be satisfied changing the suspension to Monoleaf, rather than the more radical and expensive IFS. I have never heard of this being done. Is this possible? What problems would I encounter? If you install a rack on a straight axle you will encounter terrible bump steer. The only way that you can avoid bump steer with the solid axle is to mount the rack to the axle itself, that creates another problem. You would have to have a slip shaft to allow the rack to move up and Down, that is a bad situation also and also increases the sprung weight making the axle more difficult to control. The best advice that I can give ...is to keep the stock steering and add a power assist unit or go all the way and replace the straight axle with the mustang front suspension. So obviously it is time to replace the rear. Would somebody be kind enough to post a list of years and models that have the 9" that will bolt right up without having to shorten it to get it under the truck? Thank you in advance Dave 3-56's but the wife says two gotta go. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Jul 1998 21:29:38 EDT From: MichellHC Subject: FTE Pre61 - Miss my Effie friends Hi Gang, Just wanted to let you all know I am still alive and well. Bob and I are spending the summer in Colo. and I do not have full time access to my computer as I did at home. However I do get to check my mail about once a week, and always have to skim over the pre 61 list just to see whats going on. I really miss all of you and look fortward to returning home in Oct. when I will start putting my two cents worth in once again.
