Driving down the road the other day I spotted a late 40's Ford 8N tractor that looks to be in excellent shape. It had a for sale sign on it so I figured I
would post here in case anyone was interested in more details.

I am out in Western Mass. If anyone is seriously looking for more info I can get it for you.

Hi folks,
I bought a UFO (un-identified Ford Ornament) from the hood of a 53-56 f-100
I beleive. It looks like a plane and has the numbers BA 16850 F. Abe
Stauffer knows exacly where it came from because I got it from him, hoping
it was an optional factory accessory, which I don't remember seeing. Does
anyone have any listing as to the optional accessory hood ornaments for
53-56 and can anyone tell me what the one I have is for. It fits the
contour of the hood perfectly, but it's a plane, not a bird as I have been
told they should look like. BTW if anyone has the correct bird for sale at
a reasonable cost I would be interested.

Hey Paul -

Altho I haven't used it yet, I bought some black "protective body shield" (it
is available in clear & black) from J. C. Whitney that is used to protect the
lower panels from stone chips. Some newer vehicles have a similar coating
sprayed on at the factory. I plan to cut this vinyl material into 1/2" or 5/8"
strips (it comes in a 12-foot roll that's 6 1/2" wide) & apply it to the ribs
on the running boards. I chose this stuff because I didn't want it to look
obvious like body side molding (it's only 3.56 mils thick) but still allow
them to stepped on without scratching. Cutting will be the only trick. I'll
let you know how it turns out.
