Does anybody know of a place to get replacement parts for a sliding rear
window, or do you have to replace the entire window?

The Latch on my Slider has broken off.

Thanks!

My '60 came with a 223" with a combo fuel pump, which worked great when it
worked. The pump would last about 1 year, then the vacuum part would quit.
It pumped fuel just fine but didn't help the wipers. I got tired of
replacing it and went to a junk yard and got a $6 electric wiper motor that
was an EXACT replacement for the vacuum one. The bolt holes matched, the
wiper arms went right on, and it even used the same cable control to
actuate a self-contained two-speed switch. I never knew what it was off of
since it was in a pile of wiper motors, but it said Delco on it and someone
later told me it was from a '57 che*y. Look in old junk yards.

Diesel engine cars and light trucks often have a separate vacuum pump to
run the heater & a/c stuff since the diesel generates no vacuum. Some are
belt driven and some are electric. Check junk yards.

Does anyone know where I can find the proper procedures for replacing front &
rear cab mount bushings? Interestingly, Ford forgot to include these
procedures in their shop manual. Thanks.

Subject: FTE Pre61 - Vacuum wipers

Just to add a couple of things to the wiper question, many, if not all '56
up passenger cars used the dual type booster vacuum/fuel pump, however for
some strange reason what most auto parts stores sell now is the fuel pump
only style. JC Whitney carries a dual pump up to a few years ago, and still
may. I don't know why a passenger car pump wouldn't work, at least after
'55. I have seen a lot of them at fleamarkets, such as Hershey and Carlisle
some used, some new.

A neat alternative, if you can find one, is an electric vacuum pump from a
diesel Olds or Caddy. This pump was used to run the emission and air
contioning controls, its probably hard to find because anyone who owned a
diesel Cadillac wanted to crush it after 2 weeks.

I was poking around at a scrap yard and found a '60 optional electric
motor, it was made to replace the stock vacuum motor. You bet that baby was
mine some fast, I moved the mounting spacers inboard, cut down the shaft,
and got rid of my '57's wiper problems just like that. The thing even used
the stock control cable, all I needed was 12Volts and a fuse for 2 speeds,
works all the time.

At the Pigeon Forge show, some of us discussed the idea of becoming involved in community activities. Well, here is our first opportunity to show our stuff. Please see the email we received below.

Ken is going to send Ms. Edsall some information on the history of the Ford truck. Anyone else who would like to participate, please send your mail directly to her, but be sure to mention that you are a list member so she will know where the mail is coming from.
Thanks in advance for your time.

Could anyone who is sending her info please send it to me also and I
will put it on my page. Even if the info is as simple as the colour
of the hubcaps on the truck. This includes you too Ken.

Subject: FTE Pre61 - whiners may rejoice

thought it was time to give some of the whiners a chance to rejoice. ol'
T-bird Terry was cranking some smoke at a redlight the other day just to
wacth the bewildered looks of the pimpled face little boys in the mustang
5.0 next to him and as he hit a fishtailin' third gear , KABLOOEY, number 4
rod exited through the cast iron of the small block chevy and left me to
pull the "old red dog" 59 to the side of the road and wait for the tow
truck. now what to do? started checking the papers for another sbc or a bbc
and nothing to be had. noticed a pile of fomoco motors of all vintages and
sizes, a very unusual sight, and my eye caught a blip that said "77 460 and
c-6, hear it run, $400". mighty tempting i thought. big block power and a
workable price. now i'm checking the availability of motor mounts( ford to
chevy front clip). tranny is no big deal. may run the bbf for a year or so
till i can put together the ultimate change over "500 ci caddy". lot of time
and money to be spent there. oh well, thats what i love about my truck.
doin' what others don't. see chevy, ford, chrysler, it doesn't matter. if
the price is right and you get what you want, let others whine and leave the
driving to us. i'll let you know how the 460 runs out. you keep us posted on
your next whine. i'm just glad i could give you guys a few minutes to gloat
over the sbc biting the dust. before you break your arm patting yourself on
the back i have to tell you i had the 5.0 daylighted by the time i hit 2nd
and by 21/2 cars when she went. oh well, now it's just another b.s. story i
can tell to my grandkids. 460 here i come.

T-bird Terry
