Ken, can't thank you enough for your response. You really got my juices
flowing and the wheels turning. All I would like to do is add enough to
make room for a pair of reclining buckets like the ones in my wifes
Explorer. I didn't think it would be to expensive a job, other than
having a longer drive shaft built. Thanks again for your response. I too
would like to see any pics. you might have of the job and the finished
product.

Couple of weeks ago someone asked about the RED "FORD" on the hubcaps. The
paint that the restoration shop used on mine is Porche Guards Red.

They use some hi-tech spectrum analysis and determined that that was the
right color.

Sorry it takes me so long to reply to these things. I hope to have remote
e-mail access from my palm pilot soon and will be able to send and receive
from the road.

Ray,

Thanks for the information. I am going to try Bob's in Bellingham. Then,
at least I think, we are done. Was going to go to Mansfield (great woods)
tomorrow...rain!

Next weekend there is a show in your area. Gardner at Wachusettes (sp?)
Community college. It is a judged show and we will be there if no rain.

Stop by if you get up there.

Richard, I forgot to mention adding 10 inches to the frame and a longer
driveshaft. Pictures should be on the web in a few weeks. With just 10
inches added and no extra window most people don't even notice the
extension.....unless they have or had a 53-56 F100.

Well, I got the fuel tank repaired, and it looks really good
and doesn't leak any longer, however, now the fuel guage
doesn't work.

I think I have to change the float assembly since the wiring
looks okay. Has anyone experience with trying to fix the
float? Is it worth trying? Or should I just give in and get a
"new" one?

Thanks,

Subject: FTE Pre61 - Tilt front ends

Hi everyone,

Wondering how much experience we have out there with aftermarket tilt
front ends. I
have seen a lot of people posting about using the original metal but I
may need to
go with an aftermarket one piece.

I have a 60 F-100. What manufacturers should I look at? What kind of
problems are
involved in the project and how will it affect the streetability of the
truck?

I would like to drive this truck on a semiregular basis and some of it
will be
highway. Do the fiberglass noses tend to vibrate or shimmy in the wind
or are they
a bit sturdier than that?

Any and all info on what needs to be done or what problems I would run
into would be
appreciated.

Later. Trent

Subject: FTE Pre61 - Gas tanks, tilt column, etc...

Greetings everyone,

I have some general questions for everyone.

I have a 60 F-100 fleetside and I am looking to do some customization.

Can anyone give me advice on what tilt steering columns work well?
What year model truck split bench seat fits nicely?
What gas tank will fit nicely under the bed (and where along the frame
rails they fit
best?

Also, what is the best master cylinder/vacuum booster combo for this
truck? I have an
83 302 to install and wonder about clearance. I am going to need to
install the brakes
long before the engine goes in though and want to make sure I am not
causing myself any
headaches.

I am also looking for a tailgate. Damned if I can find anything to
replace the
original. The only aftermarket stuff I see is for the stepside beds and
none of the
trucks in the local salvage yards have beds on em.

Has anyone had any experience switching to aftermarket stepside beds?
Were these even
available on the original 60 truck?

Are there any known tonneau covers or bed liners that will fit the
original fleetside
bed?

I guess that will be plenty of fodder for responses. I will appreciate
any info you
folks can provide.

Later. Trent

Well my wife and I are loading up and heading out from Toronto Canada
tomorrow AM for Pigeon Forge TN. We're going to make a week of it
(although this "Dollywood" thing has me a bit concerned) I'll do my best
to get to the "booth" on Saturday, as I would like to meet all you folks.
You'll know me because I'll be the guy trying to buy the rear end from John
and wrestling T-Bird Terry for that $3.00 56 hood ornament (and
complaining about the exchange rate at the same time!!)

I belong to a truck club called the Southern Ontario Classic Pickup Club
(SOCP) (48-56 Fords) and there are about 10-12 Canadian members heading
down and (we are hoping) about 6-7 trucks. They should be heading down on
Wed-Thurs and usually bring a few nice Merc's. (Truck Club Web Page URL
below, if your interested)

I'll look forward to meeting some of you Saturday and have a safe trip.

Steve, just in case you didn't see this I'm sending it out again:

There will be a meeting of Ford Truck Enthusiast members in front
of the Convention Center, under the canopy. You can't miss it, the
show is next to it and there's a bazillion trucks on front lawn in
front of it. This meeting will be at 10:00am Saturday the 16th. The
meeting will be informal and I plan to be there from 9:40 until we
decide to head out. Bring a lunch and drinks, we'll find a place
where we can go as a group to munch before and during the 12:00 parade
of trucks. Sorry we don't have solid plans but the town will be
packed and every restaurant laughed at us when we asked to reserve a
table for 30+!

How will we recognize each other? Simple... point your web browser to

http://www.ford-trucks.com/pigeonforge.html

This page is simply a small text box you can print and pin to either
your shirt or hat. Its small enough not to look goofy yet large enough
to be easily recognized.

It says:

FORD TRUCK ENTHUSIASTS
TRIED, TRUE AND FORD BLUE

- - -------------------------

Line is for putting your name there. If you do not have a printer,
simply put "Ford Truck Enthusiasts" on an index card and pin it to
your shirt. I plan to glue my printout to an index card and pin it
to my shirt.

Look for the big guy with the brown hair/beard.

Need a quick informal poll of who (of the people going to the
F100 Supernationals) would be interested in meeting Sunday
morning (16th) for a breakfast before everyone leaves the
show? Everyone would bring their own stuff, perhaps stop at
McDonalds or Dunkin Donuts. Gary Bowling, one of the 61-79

morning. If we can get enough people interested (10+) then
we'll do it. How does a 9:00am get-together sound?

Subject: FTE Pre61 - Original turn signals

Greetings,
Some questions about the turn signals mounted on the front fenders. I
always thought the old trucks (the cheap stripped down models) came with
out turn signals and they were added as the various states toughened the
inspection laws. Now I am beginning to think otherwise. Were they a
dealer installed item? I was planning to have my turn signals in the
parking lights. I already have the 2 filament socket and bulbs. If one
wants to be original should the turn signals be on the fenders or not
(for the non-deluxe cab version)?
Also, McLaughlin's book "48-56 Ford pickups" says that only a left
tail light was standard. A right taillight was an option. Were rear turn
signals in the tail/brake lamps in the trucks so equipped?
Can any more-experienced guys with good memories or guys with good
books help me?
