You might try raising the door a tad too high before tightening the bolts and see if that helps. My concern is that maybe the hinges are sagging with age, or that the hinge mounts are doing the same. I looked at Grover's hinges, and I don't think you'll get any adjustment where the hinges are mounted to the cab. Hey Rich!! The dome light I got from you is in, and it works great! The door switches are a little reluctant, but some electronics cleaning spray will help that little problem. To bring the top of your door inward toward the cab to close the gap between the door and the cab, you will have to loosen the hinge from the cab. You had mentioned that you loosened the two bolts that attached the hinge to the cab. There is a third bolt in each hinge, it is located in the hollow area of the hinge assembly. Open the door as wide as possible and look inside the recess that the open hinge reveals and you will see the third bolt. By loosing the the hinge to the cab you will be able to move the door in or out from the cab. By loosing the bolts from the door to the hinge you can move the door forward of backward. Another thing to consider is how good is your door rubber. If it is compressed too much you may never be able to cloose it up. Another problem I have found with these trucks is if one has ever been wrecked. or the doors replaced from another truck, there is sometimes a problem also. We have a 55 that we adjusted the doors all the way in and also put new door rubbers on and it still did not fit as close as it should. You could see daylight past the rubber with the door closed. We had to bend the top of the door in with a come-along to make it fit properly. I have seen in the manual a jig that you can put the door in to bend the top out of in, but I have never seen one in the flesh. Try adjusting the door all the way in first and if that dont work you may try to bend the top in a little, but be carefull, not bend it too much or damage it. You will have to use a big block C-6. All Ford small blocks ie 260, 289, 302, 351W, 351C use the same bell housing pattern. The 351M, 400, 429, 460 all use the same bell housing pattern, which is different from the small block you now have. The problen with a C-6 is that the bell housing is cast right to the tranny case and can't be seperated from the tranny, the only solution it to get a big block C-6. The good news is these trannys are plentuful and easily found at very resonable prices. It sounds like you need to replace it. Also if your door latch is lower than it needs to be , then it will pull the back side of the door down. If you did not raise your latch after adjusting the door , then please try doing so , I think that will solve your problem. I'd appreciate input from anybody whose done this or knows something about it. Thanks. i am not sure of the paint that is used but the ones i have seen are plain primer. i believe that a clear would make too much shine even if it was mixed. the street rodders have been doing this for at least 3 years now that i have seen. they have used multiple shades beside the standard red, gray and black. i have seen orchid, green(pukey), a gorgeous brown, yellow, orange. probably others i havn't seen. i have also seen them decorated with a great set of pinstrip flames. in the street rod business it is referred to as a "suede" paint job. i think it would be cool and a whole lot less costly as well as easier to repair. i rode a harley for 3 years one time in primer red and the scratches were a cinch to repair. plus i was really satisfied when we were at daytona for the bike races and out of 100 or more black and blue harleys, that to the untrained eye were identical, someone would always speak up and say "hey, who's riding the primer red?". at least mine got noticed.
