I would stay with the chrome.. if your gonna go with gold.. you might as well put hydrolics on in.. and a big phat system and park it in the hood.. Just my opinion.. I think chrome is much smoother.. maybe a a few gold touches under the hood might look nice though.. I don't think it would have the same effect on older trucks, though. If it were a late model camry or something, yeah, I would agree forget the gold. Just don't go overboard with the gold. Don't go putting gold emblems all over the truck. DEFINITELY don't have some gold wheelwell trim peices made up. Don't do a gold license plate frame. Just do it in moderation and I don't think you'll be confused with that crowd. Somewhere once I did see a 51 or 52 with a gold (painted) grill and chrome headlight bezels. I think if the gold paint had been gold plating, it would have looked very nice and absolutely DID NOT put off the wrong image about the truck or its owner. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Mar 1998 15:37:26 EST From: AZYacht Subject: Re: Carter 390 CFM 4 bbl. (I still have another posting to read). I really want to stay all ford. The 4.3 gm is everywhere down here. All I want is a drivetrain that I can find parts for and find someone to work on!! You guys are a big help. If I can find a 302 w/fuel injection and AOL for a reasonable price (what ever that is?) I will buy it. See you in Pigeon Forge, (bring that up in AOL's Wheels chat room!) He's good with money but I doubt if he can shift gears...I've got the aod out of a 5.0 Mustang but as far as putting it in,I have not done anything except haul it, unload it,and sweep around it .....Sorry I can't help ya' yet see you in wheels--Stoney.. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Mar 1998 20:52:35 EST From: JRFiero Subject: Re: chrome vs gold original post was about 'golding' a 52 grill, then a response included - crome >> Not sure if this implies that original had chrome, but I don't think any did. Anyone got any info? This is for 51/52 grills with the three teeth. 51 started with Argent (silver color, not chrome) then changed to beige. I've seen ads for the bigger trucks with body color grills, but haven't been able to confirm that. Was chrome ever available from Ford? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Mar 1998 20:58:14 -0800 From: jc & terry Subject: don't talk the talk, if you can't walk the walk TBird-Terry if you want cheap why don't you put a 4.3 and a camero interior I your Birds Maybe that would better suit your salary. why don't you back up your talk by telling us what you did and what you spent instead of calling me cheap? i offered a view based on provable facts in this discussion. what did you offer? a little more air for your paper tiger? T-bird Terry ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Mar 1998 21:21:18 -0800 From: jc & terry Subject: carb I am building a 4.9L and believe I need a Carter 390 CFS for the motor. I am not enamored with the Holley and am looking for 1) Opinions on this carb. 2) Any help in locating a new or rebuilt (properly done) version of this carb. I really don't want to go into the Holley thing as we have no need for a carb that self destructs upon a 'hiccup'. Thanks in advance. Gary 47 1/2 Panel called 'HD' aka Hipster Dufus. gary, is this a 6 or 8 cyl ? the reason i ask is 5.0 L is 300 cubic inches. i have a friend that runs a 300 6 in his 60 (believe he has the stock carb) and another that runs a 289/302 in a 57 (holley 600). i am of the same idea as you when it comes to a holley although i know many that are satisfied with the holley. if it is a 6 and you only want a 390 cfs a local carb rebuild shop should be able to either have one done for you already or be able to give you a good core and build it . if it is an 8, i would go with a carter 650 and edelbrock hirise($300). rv cam if you want. the holley 600 roars on the 57 and the 300-6 is a stump puller too. hope this helps. T-bird Terry ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Mar 1998 01:01:26 EST From: AZYacht Subject: Re: carb reply Terry, Thanks for the response. The engine is a 4.9L aka 300ci six. My engine building buddy says to avoid the Holley and for dependability use the Carter. The truck is to be as simple yet viable as can be and if need be driven anytime / anywhere, sort what we call a 'Not Rod' or N.O.S. (not old stocker). Thanks again and keep up the answers and entertainment. Gary O. 47 1/2 Panel called "HD" aka Hipster Dufus.....
