Piper" Subject: 1949 Ford F1 Pickup Truck I have a 1949 F-1 that I am just starting a complete frame-off restoration on. I am looking for information on what ring & pinion gear set will fit this truck. I would like to get to a 355/1 gear ratio. Also looking for a transmission rebuilder in the dallas area that can rebuild a 4 speed floor shift. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Nov 1997 17:05:39 -0800 From: Dan Wentz Subject: Re: F1 Power Steering >This may seem like a really silly question, but I'm curious about >the rain thing. Seems my '53 F-250 doesn't much like the rain. >She's been stalling out when I stop since the rain started and >I'm wondering if it's merely a function of the water or something >else. Of course, this will all become clear once the weather >does, but, what about rain? I don't know about rain, but my old flathead loved cold cloudy days and ran it's best then. The Cleveland I've got now hates the cold--probably has to do with the automatic choke. Why didn't you take it out in >the rain, Dan? Is there something I ought to know? I didn't want to test it out in the rain. I haven't had the truck out on the road in about 6 months, and in that time the steering and brakes have been changed but never road tested. I didn't want to add wet roads to whatever other problems might be there already. >Anxiously awaiting dry weather, I got dry weather yesterday, and had the truck out for a while. The steering feels good. The alignment is way off now, but it steers nicely. ~Dan 1992 Ford Mustang LX 1950 Ford F1, 351C-2V (starting to get fun again) Check out my F1 page: http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.GeoCities.com/MotorCity/3623 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Nov 1997 17:12:42 -0800 From: Dan Wentz Subject: RE: F1 Power Steering > Glad to hear that you got it together. Like I said before, the documentation is crap. The instructions say somewhere that all the parts are the same--It looks pretty much like a 66 mustang though. Does the tie rod have >any special mount for the clyinder? The tie rod doesn't. There's a piece bolted onto the cylinder that clamps to the tie rod. I think you will like the ease that >it takes when you go down the road, I know that it made abig difference on >my 56. I'm hardly able to describe the difference it's so great. Garber" Subject: Radios and Tubes Hello All, All this talk about radios, has of course, made me want one even more. Some day. Anyway, reading through the the local paper I found a guy selling off all his tubes and after checking with him he has all the required tubes for the 53 to 55 radios. The more I want, the cheeper they get. If you have a need for them send me an e-mail offlist and we'll work something out. Please hurry, first come, first serve. I'll be buying some for my future radio. Again, I don't know how much, depends on how many you guys want. If you need any other type let me know ASAP. Rich Disclaimer: I'm not here trying to make money, just trying to help.
