In the book "Flathead Fever, How to Hot Rod the Famous Ford Flathead Engine," Mike Davidson has a picture of an adaptor with the caption "This adapter produced by the author mates the popular C4 auto to early engines." However, I think he's Australian, and I don't know where you would get his stuff. The book came from Classic Motorbooks. If you buy one of the books, get the 2nd edition, 1996, red cover. The first edition is 1995, green cover, a few pages shorter. Vendors will tell you 'its out of print' but won't mention there's a second edition available. Back to the C4 - I think its a great idea, I think one belongs behind the flathead in my '51 F1, and I'll be real interested in the responses. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Nov 1997 12:22:42 -0500 From: mick Subject: Re: C-4 Flat Try Bill Belmont - 617-326-9599 in Dedham Mass. I believe it has a Mustang 9" or 8" rearend (69-73), at least that's what I was told when I purchased it. It feels like a posi unit, however I am not sure. I will like to install disc breaks on this rearend. Will disc breaks from a ford lincoln rearend fit? What will be the easiest & least expensive way to install disc breakes on this rearend? I will also like to be able to identify with certainty the type of rearend I have in this truck. Can anybody help me expand my knowledge on this? Joe ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Nov 1997 13:37:13 -0500 From: Jan Cruser Subject: 1948 Ford Questions Hi everyone: Hubby and I are new to the list. We just purchased, this weekend, a 1948 F1 pickup, sitting on a 1979 Jeep Cherokee 4-wheel drive frame. The exterior of the truck is original, but inside has been modified with bucket seats, automatic, power steering and brakes, and air. I know, all of you purists out there are going ugh, modified, but it is the cutest darn thing. Looks like a Matchbox Toy Truck all grown up. Kind of like a little bad boy truck. The former owner owned a body shop and built it for himself 7 years ago, but is now in his 60's and it is time for it to go. Lucky us. The exterior is painted gold (ugh!) so we are going to have it repainted after Thanksgiving. Any ideas out there with colors would be much appreciated. He has put a tool box in the bed with diamond tread on it, and the side rails are also diamond tread, (that is the only thing on the Ford frame that isn't original) but he did a good job with that and so we are going to leave it. Have been considering two-tone paint. Either red and grey or green and cream. Has anyone seen anything like this that looks good? Or any other combincations? We checked out the old truck books at Barnes and Noble yesterday, but didn't see too much in colors other than red and a bright yellow that had been chopped. Of course you can never go wrong with red........ oh, decisions, decisions. I checked out some websites and have found a few pictures, one was painted royal blue with wood rails. I keep toying with the idea of painting it royal blue with a Frito logo on the doors, and then having the Frito Bandito painted on oak bed rails. I know, some of you guys out there are probably going, "this woman is nuts", but hey guys, it's just an idea. You gotta have a dream..... right? Also, hubby is pretty car knowledgeable, as we have had Corvettes for several years, but doesn't know much about Jeep engines. So he would like to know if other auto manufacturers' manifolds or header pipes would adapt to the jeep engine (360 V8). Would like to put a six-pack or three deuces on it, also, mainly for appearance. This is going to be a truck that we drive daily, we want it to look good, but be able to drive it, not just house it and bring it out for the shows. I look forward to chatting with listmembers, as like all new (old) car owners, we are really excited.
