If the brakes are different, does that mean the master cylinder is different between the F-3 and F-4. The previous owner was a NAPA auto parts dealer and told me all the brake parts were available through NAPA for the F-3. Jim | Subject: F-4 | | In New England these are fairly rare, Ford's "Tonner" for 48-50. | About the size of an F-2 or 3 but the running gear is the same as an | F-5. Used 6.50 or 7.00x20 tires. Brakes are the same as F-5 or 6. | Ford shows the 6 as 95hp and the V-8 as 100hp, but most Ford enthusiasts | figure that was not true, the 6 probably developed more hp than the V-8, | because it's a more modern design. Less RPM tho, so less top speed. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Oct 1997 18:58:53 -0800 From: csedgwick Subject: F-4 The 8MTH 254ci six was only available as an option on the F-6 trucks, standard or COE, with the T98 synchro transmission. The 226 and 254's are very similar, differences in block, head and pistons. (an 8MTH head on a 7HA gives about 4 to 1 compression) The manifolds interchange. The weird setup is the 8WTH updraft carb and manifold they used on the COE's. I spoke too soon suggesting that Jim might have lucked out with the M-series six in his F-4. The H-series six is a nice little power plant, though. Mine's about ready for a rebuild, but she ticked away nicely on a recent 600-mile run up through Maine and back.
