Re: Supernationals ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Mark Campbell" Subject: How do I take this starter off? Date: Tue, 23 May 2000 09:25:22 CDT I now know that my starter is bad on my 50' 239 flathead v8 (Ford pickup F3). However, I can not get that darn thing off. I've unbolted everything on and around the starter motor including the bolts on the bell housing. The 1950 shop manual I have said I might have to tilt it upward for removal to clear the flywheel. Does anyone have any ideas? It does not come out when I tilt, pull, push, cuss, etc. Does the starter drive need to be removed from the back? Also, is the cap covering the starter drive a part of the bell housing or does it pop off? It's got a hole in it. Thanks in advance! Mark You have two bolts that come out the back of the starter. They look like the bolts that hold the starter together on a newer starter. You will need to loosen these you will be able to pull them about an inch out of the back of the housing. The bendex (sp)? is a large piece and will come out the front. You will need to tilt the end with the bolts up and in just a little to get it off. The cap on the bellhousing is a pressed in from the inside I think.... Not sure on that. I didn't remove mine to get my starter off. Hope this was some help. Thanks to Eric, I had the supreme joy of riding in the Blvd. Cruse in his neat '56. I hope you made it back to PA. all right with that darling Nicholette (his daughter)! Jayna and Curtis missed her after you left. Email me offline when you get a chance. Its Tuesday and we're just getting home. Pigeon Forge looked naked without any old Fords! A great fire has been lit under me to have my 57 ready for next year. There was only 1 '57 at the show (that left before I could see it) and another '58, not counting the '60 army green LWB stepside for sell (read: UGLY). I did meet one '57 - '60 parts vendor in the swap meet area that said a lot of guys had asked him about parts. He thinks a lot will show up one day! There were other various parts in the swap area for us!! A lot more than last year, but still no '57 - '58 Ford hood emblem!!! The cookout was great and I hope we can pull it off again. Of course there was about 10 of us and over 50 of the Georgia Lowriders. The b'fast needs to be a tradition (although Hardees would better fit my budget). I saw a lot of faces I had met before, others I hadn't, still others that I have forgotten. After a few years, I can get it down. As far as what won, Eric and I went back to the KOA after the cruse. If anybody has that scoop, share it with us (provided I can remember seeing it). I am in need of the splined "thing" ( i don't know what it's called.) that screws in the pivot assembly shaft. The wiper arm fits on this. If any of you have a spare one of these laying around that you want to sell, e-mail me off line.
