Subject: FTE Pre48 - Re:Rearends

The 1940 3/4 tonner has an open drive shaft. It is a totally difference
beast than the 1/2 ton -- different frame, etc. It is the smallest of the
big-truck line. I don't know if Ford figured it would be pulling bigger
loads than the half ton and maybe that is why they put in the 4.8 and 4.11
rearends in the 3/4 and 1 tonners to compensate for the 85 horsepower
flathead. They speedometer only goes up to 60 on the 3/4 tonner and oppose
the the higher speeds on the 1/2 ton trucks.
