Teixeira" Subject: Re: FTE Pre48 - Rearends At 09:41 PM 9/8/1999 -0400, Brechtjohn [Question about replacing the stock 4.875:1 gears with 4.11:1 on a 1940 3/4 ton truck with 85 horse power engine] I have a 1935 half-ton truck with a 85 horse power engine and 3.55 gears instead of 4.11 and it does fine. I would guess you could drop down as low a 3.78 for a 3/4 ton. I don't think you can drop in a later rear-end without also changing the transmission since I think you have a torque tube rear end still. If you have an open drive shaft I would guess that a Ford 9" would fit, but don't know what you would do for rear springs.
