On my '35, I think it's just to the rear of the steering box. The same number was also stamped on the engine itself (by the cast-in bell housing), and according to "Ford V-8 Service Bulletins", the style of the stamping changed at some point: the bulletin advises dealers to get new metal stamps so they could get the proper matching number when replacing the engine.
