If this is Carb'd I'd still suspect a lean condition, though I don't know exactly how you would do it... Pull the plugs and look at them carefully. Are the two cylinders that are real hot lighter in color then the two outer cylinders? Is this Carb'd or injected? Chris Samuel Member SAE Member AWS ____________________________________________________________________________ From: "Brian A" <richat22 Subject: 302 burning hot on two cylinders Date: Sat, 06 Jan 2001 04:29:46 -0000 Ihave a 302 with all new parts top to bottom (even the bolts) in a bronco II. When i crank it to run in the morning in less then five minutes i can see (dark outside) the middle two headers on the drivers side are glowing red hot. Literally. It also has valve rattle at light cruising on the highway. Seemingly on the same side. And the performance is off somewhat. It will pull front tires but lags at top end like a timing adjustment. It will not time in enough to get the rattle out and it sounds almost exactly like cheap gas. Any suggestions? 302 .040 over edel. perf. package slightly shaved heads trw forged flat-tops _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ End of perf-list Digest V2001 #2 ******************************** ---------------------------------------------------------- Ford Truck Enthusiasts Performance, Hot-Rod and Custom Truck List Send posts to perf-list If you ever want to remove yourself from this mailing list, send an email to: listar with the words "unsubscribe perf-list" in the subject of the message. Over 800 trucks in the show each year, plus hundreds more parked all over the strip. Vendors, hundreds of awards, model car and truck exhibit, t-shirts, tech shows and a great parade with about 2 miles of Effies! The show is at the Grand Hotel and Convention center in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. You can book at room at any of the many hotels around town or camp in the nearby Smokey Mountains. There is a trolley/bus system so getting around town is easy. Lots of fun things to do, Dollywood, the Smokey Mountains, rides, outlet mails, craft centers, and much more. There is something for the whole family. The Grand Hotel can be contacted at: 3171 Parkway Pigeon Forge, Tennessee 37863-3309 (865) 453-1000 Pat Ford Promotions can be contacted at: 1920 Council Avenue Statesville, NC 28625 (704) 872-7327 Registrations should be sent to Pat Ford Promotions. Call or write them to get a registration form. Pre-registration for your truck: $20 Registration after April 15th: $25 Ford Truck Enthusiasts will be staying at the Howard Johnson. The best reservation prices I've found was on www.expedia.com. Every hotel listed near the Convention Center, are rated as the same number of stars so price and location will be your primary considerations. The closest hotel to the Grand is the Holiday Inn. It will run about 30% more than the Howard Johnson's. The HoJo is within walking distance of the Grand (about 2 blocks). The next hotel down the strip is the Days Inns. It runs slightly more than the HoJo and is further away from the Grand. FTE stays at the HoJo when we reserve early. Last year we were at the Days Inn because we didn't reserve early enough. I am baffled by the fact it is only on these two cylinders. I do know that my fuel pump is not quite as strong as it should be but it only noticed after a few seconds of a hard run. you can hear the aluminum lines pressuring back up and the engine starts missing. But this 2-cyl problem has been here since day one as far as i can tell. Simple because the timing has never smoothed out and it has rattled a little since the start at certain speeds. >From: "Brian A" <richat22 >Subject: 302 burning hot on two cylinders >Date: Sat, 06 Jan 2001 04:29:46 -0000 > > >Ihave a 302 with all new parts top to bottom (even the bolts) in a bronco >II. I'm thinking at the intake between the two cylinders. Also I would look for crossfire at the cap, maybe some carbon tracking inside the cap between the spark plug terminals.
