Ford in talks with Goodyear to supply Explorer tires Ford Motor is talking with Goodyear Tire & Rubber about supplying tires for its 2002 Explorer sport utility vehicle. Current Explorer models are solely equipped by Firestone. "We are in talks with Goodyear. We haven't made any final decisions yet," Ford spokesman Frank Sopata said, declining further comment. The Ford-Goodyear talks increase pressure on Firestone, which was blasted along with Ford in Congressional hearings Wednesday. U.S. lawmakers said the companies and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration did not act quickly enough to initiate Firestone's recall of 6.5 million 15-inch tires. Most of the tires are on Ford vehicles, particularly the Explorer. Oh, those troubled waters at Bridgestone. The U.S. Justice Department is looking into whether a criminal investigation into Bridgestone Corp.'s [JP] handling of a recall of tires on Ford Motor [F] vehicles is warranted. Attorney General Janet Reno said that an Aug. 28 letter from Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy had prompted the decision to study whether any civil or criminal laws had been violated. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Sep 2000 19:31:35 -0400 From: admin Subject: Subscription to forum at http://www.ford-trucks.com/cgi-bi Following are new messages posted in the Ford Truck Enthusiasts message board forums.
