I have a '90 F-150 4X4 300six and a mazda tranny. The tranny is making a clunking noise when I shift. Does anyone know what tranny I could swap into my truck. I really hate that mazda! The engine only has 115k miles on it and has just gotten broken in so I don't want to get rid of the truck. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jan 2000 09:04:40 -0600 From: "William S. The E4OD uses a wide ratio C6 gearset, and the OD you can lock out, not to mention you probably won't be using it off road anyway (the over drive gear itself I mean) ... > the c-6 is a RFE8TP EOAP 7A1-5B1A > looks to be a 1988 aod with 31 spline tail shaft. Okay, I don't think that's an E4OD then, rather an AOD, which is not known for its longevity behind anything bigger than a 5.0 ... and even a well built 5.0 can stress those, but there are people out there who can make them work, (Art Carr trannies comes to mind) .. Heck if you throw enough money at something it'll work :) What are you planning on doing exactly for setup in front of the tranny and what sort of "off roading" are you talking about ? (mud bogs, rock crawling, snow play ?) Since we rebuilt the engine (orig . 302) and i put it in low range with locked front/rear. i loose clutches. Therefore the thought is to convert the 4x to an automatic.. i would not have the "shock-loading" that i do now. Vehicle is a multi-use rig.. for Oregon hills, Mud, Rocks, Sand and most importantly the Baja 1000. This is not a A40D but a C-6 with a electrically operated overdrive phil == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jan 2000 10:46:32 -0600 From: "William S. They are a pricey tranny, but with the right parts in them have stood up to drag racing with the Lightning crowd (a 4200lb truck) ... They will require an adapter from Baumann engineering as they are electronically controlled, but may fit the bill for what you are looking to do ... Checked your site out ... I'm jealous :) Looks like lots of fun ...someday I'll have to see what this 4wheeling thing is really all about instead of just playing in the snow every winter I think ... :) Just my $.02 wish 96 Mustang GT 5spd 4.6L 73ish 1/2ton 4x4 6.4L http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.public.iastate.edu/~wish == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jan 2000 08:54:45 -0800 From: able office machines Subject: Re: FTE Perf - c-6 aod "William S. We just had my sister's rebuilt and it was not cheap ... didn't know what budget you were looking at ... > and i would need > all sorts of adapters to mount them to the 30 yr old 302 30 year old 302 has the same bellhousing as a 5 year old 302 which the E4OD can be had behind (heck that's what my sister's is !) ... so you wouldn't need any "adapters" other than one for a 5.0 ... at least that's my understanding of things ... the xfer case could prove a different story of course ... but an atlas would solve that (you needed an excuse for one right ? :) > and the less > electronics i need ..
