Ok Guys, The fight for the 4R100 (code 44E) transmission on my 2000 F150 5.4 SC Flareside Lariat 4x4 is over, and I lost. My last ditch effort was to try to order the CA Emissions pkg., code 422, which would give me the stronger tranny. But that didn't work either. I even spoke with a "supervisor" at Ford Customer Service and told him I would be relocated to CA in 2 two 3 months and he told me that it could be done and even recommended I do it so that I wouldn't have to pay the CA emissions penalty. But the dealer here in Austin, Covert Ford, still came back and said I needed to have a permanent address in CA. I give! Joe, I must have missed your earlier post on this subject. I also have the 4R70W trans. in my 300+ HP 5.0 powered 1994 Supercab. I contacted Art Carr about the problems with this transmission. In reality this trans. is actually an AODE with a better 1st gear ratio. The total parts cost to make this tranny virtually bulletproof was a little over $500 and then of course you have to figure in the labor to install it. The rebuild kit basically contained a stronger drum assembly with more clutches, Torrington bearings and other internal parts, it also would be a wise idea to buy the Art Carr valve body kit. I made the mistake of putting in the Transgo kit and I am not really happy with it. I sold the Art Carr kit to a buddy of mine for his 4R70W and after installation the tranny woke right up. It shifts better then my Transgo equipped trans. and the temps stay steady, whereas mine has various temp readings. If you want more info and part numbers, Email me off list and I can send them to you. Again my 5.0 is putting out over 300+ HP to the rear wheels and I have yet to have a problem with the trans. since the rebuild using the Art Carr parts. I compete in the Fun Ford Weekend Top Truck class, 2nd in the points for the nation, and also race my truck regularly on the weekends. Plus I am a Maintenance Supervisor for an apartment complex and have my truck loaded regularly. Slightly off subject- I noticed your comment about adding the Kenne Bell blower. I have a 99 5.4L expedition- which, btw, has the 4R100 transmission- and have studying supercharger options for a month or so with a view towards doing something next year. Would you mind sharing some thoughts on your choice of the Kenne Bell unit and what you may have rejected along the way? One apparently attractive alternative I have considered is the package offered by Allen Engine (www.allenengine.com) which includes an Eaton blower with bypass valve, manifold and integral water to air intercooler. Package price is about the same as the Kenne Bell. Any comments appreciated. Also, just as an added note, as of 1989 all vehicles must meet federal emission standards. There is no physical difference that I am aware of in the manufacturing of vehicles. Matter of fact you could go to your local dealer and look at the emmisions sticker under the hood and read for yourself that the vehicle meets CA emission stds. THAT'S GREAT Wayne! Yes please send me the info on the kits you used. Send them to the list, I'm sure the guys will be interested. My only concern is she's gona be a 4x4 and I worry about the transfer case. Can I bullet proof that? I look at it this way, I'm not going to be towing very often, so I figure the occasional heavy foot on the unladen S-charged 5.4 Triton (~350hp/400+ft/lbs) hopefully wont do anymore than a long haul up a steep hill with a 3500Lbs. boat on the back. Sound like a valid thought, or am I on crack? Joe, I must have missed your earlier post on this subject. I also have the 4R70W trans. in my 300+ HP 5.0 powered 1994 Supercab. I contacted Art Carr about the problems with this transmission. In reality this trans. is actually an AODE with a better 1st gear ratio. The total parts cost to make this tranny virtually bulletproof was a little over $500 and then of course you have to figure in the labor to install it. The rebuild kit basically contained a stronger drum assembly with more clutches, Torrington bearings and other internal parts, it also would be a wise idea to buy the Art Carr valve body....
