In a message dated 08/12/1999 9:57:28 PM Eastern Daylight Time, wish guessing this isn't really a common problem unless it occurs when you were off-roading in which case its not really a "highway" issue ... it does seem odd that you would have this problem twice in a year, what about install procedures ? Everything torqued down exactly right the first time ? One thing that can cause this is a shifted cab, or weak cab mounts, if yours are sagging there will be pressure on the steering column and the bearings will have quite a load on them ... something to check anyway ... >> Last year the truck was totally stock, running the 235 tires on Ford rims. The problem began to occur before I went off road last weekend. This year I have a 3" Body lift and 33' tires on 95 ford rims. When I posted this problem last year I had a few guys contact me saying they had the same problem, and one guy with a 97 F-250 that Ford had rebuilt the column 3 times and it still wasn't right. If I remember right, those trucks were stock at the time also. If you want the part #'s for what I replaced, I can provide them. I also replaced all the body mounts when I did the body lift. One simple trick is to boost the timing up, 12 or 14 I think is where the stangers run it, but you can probably get by with a little less ... otherwise I think there's an upper intake piece you can get ... probably a bigger throttle body ... a little induction work might wake it up. ... I know where you're comin from as my sister has an F250 of the same year and motor... I think the key is to realize that the 302 isn't much motor to haul around a lot of truck, especially if you've got a 4x4. Oh yeah, also uncork that exhaust, I think Edelbrock has a lot of exhaust stuff for it ... don't get too happy and open it up so much you lose the torque, but it is definitely a very hp robbing place there ...
