The 5.0 isn't out of production yet, even if it is available in fewer
models. The Explorer still uses it in the AWD version.

I beg to differ. The 5.0 motors that are being used now are out of a
warehouse/storage facility. They have shut down the Windsor plant and my
buddy in the Tool and Machining Division at Ford says to buy any "NEW" 5.0 or
5.8 blocks you can find....they are not making them anymore!!!!

Yo Wayne:

As of model year 1999, Ford is still installing the venerable 302/5.0 in
Explorers and Merc Mountaineers. The 302 is the last of the Ford pushrod V8s
still being manufactured. So it's not quite dead yet, just relegated to yuppie
SUV service, which to some of us might seem shameful, but that is an important
market segment and profit center for Ford.

OTOH: I am miffed that Tim forgot the 335 series V8s, 351C, 351M, and 400. The
400 M-block was the last pushrod V8 engine ever designed and put into production
by Ford and it had the longest stroke of any Ford pushrod V8.

I'll get over it, though.

Id like to tell you guys a story about my ch*vy racing or insane load
handling of my 300 but the truth is its a dog. Granted it has 218,000
miles but my top speed is about 65 unloaded downhill! Its nearly
embarrassing it has the original c-6 never rebuilt with fresh fluid and
no muffler(the only motor i know of that doesnt get louder)the only
thing ive done to the truck is off-road lights and a stereo. My tires
are 235 mud kings. To give you an idea of its nonpower here are a few
specs
*consistently wont burn out (very important to a 16 yr old)
*needs 4-lo to get out of ditches
*slight surge in third gear
i hope you see a hopeless teenage who needs performance help
thanks

The engine was available with a standard crank, and also a heavier crankshaft
in the "heavy duty" version. I'm not sure about the specifics. Bill J.

After all the conversation surrounding the 300 vs. the 302, I hope I haven't
made a mistake. For the last 8 months I have been rebuilding a '68, and
have taken a perfectly good 300 out and a newly rebuilt 302 is being put in
shortly.

Anyway the 300 is for sale....
