It's not the original engine (that was a 300 too), but I've been very impressed with it. I've had the truck almost 20 yrs and there is nowhere that it cannot go. I've gone from 90mph (for several hrs at a time) on I-95 and I-10 to knee-deep mud and waist-deep snow. That engine is limited only by the size of its rear axle. Sure it ain't no 460 or 351, yet I bet that when it's all said and done; ol'Max will be installing a 300 in his beast after "the last of the V-8's" is burnt up... Bordomotto '80 F 100 (300) '71 Conv. Hauled a 14' fiberglass boat and all camping supplies with no problem. It was a little rough tugging the boat out of the water; had to give her a lot of gas and slip the heck out of the clutch, but it pulled it out. I sold the SuperCab to get a Nissan for economy due to long work trips. Now, I kind of miss her. I do not think I will opt for a 6-banger in my '79 rig. I think I can get more out of my 302 after some fixing up. ****************************** So many roads, so little time... - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Thursday, August 05, 1999 7:22 AM Subject: FTE Perf - Re: 300's Kick-butt > I've got a 300 in an '80 F 100 (2WD). I have to jump on the 300-six bandwagon for a minute here. I had a 65 F100 camper special, overload springs, 9" rear with 3.50's, truck tires, added power steering, and a stock 300-six. I used to make money on weekends in high school by hauling loads of junk to the dump for people. Seems like I got about 20 bucks a load. There were a couple of times that my truck absolutely amazed me. I had it loaded over the top of the cab with two trees I had cut down and was heading up a hill in Folsom CA. There is a stoplight at the very bottom of the hill (of course). Had to start out in granny gear but the truck pulled the hill just fine. At the dump the truck weighed 5,300 lbs or thereabouts. Another time, my dad and I had the longbed loaded to the rails with dirt and busted up concrete from a driveway we pulled up. It wouldn't go over 55 on the freeway but I don't think anything else would've either. It had so much weight in it the overloads were almost bottomed out and the motor was just fine. So don't discount the 300-six. It's not a horsepower maker but I would put the torque up against just about anything... As for myself, I could never live with a Chevy. Keep it real, and Ford blue.
