Strange. OHC is putting MORE _torque_ to the ground...at a LOWER r/min,
with TALLER gears than either of the pushrod engines.

Funny I was looking through a Motor Trend today are they were comparing
SUVs and the Navigator had the highest rear end ratio at 3:27 but had
the lowest overall ratio so it is not geared higher at all.
Isn't it about time you realize that OHC is not that bad? Also, FWIW,
the 5.4 is the ONLY _truck_ engine ever named to the Wards 10 best
engines list. Not the pushrod Mopar nor any pushrod GM Vortec. Their
words were (and this is from memory, but you can read the article on
their website) "overhead-cam> truck motors work".
Ahh, finally someone else that can see through the propaganda and
stereotypes :) It seems like it's very hard for people to get past the
fact that the engines are OHC. Once you do get past this, you will see
that Ford's modular engines surpass, or match the old engines
performance. Just looking at the peak power numbers doesn't tell the
whole story. If you look at the torque curve of the 5.4L, it's very
flat with two slight bulges in power output. GM talks about their flat
torque curves with their new engines, but I have yet to see one
published by them or anyone. It maybe flat, but it's still no match for
the 5.4L, which has the GM beat from idle all the way to the
top in torque. And judging by the dyno results shown here, Ford is
finally building a stout, efficient auto tranny.

Still no match but lets look at the track times this shows who is making
the power. And from the numbers I seen the all mighty ford V10 in a 2wd
drive F350 cant even keep up with the dodge V10 3500 4X4. The 5.4L
powered Fords get wasted by GMs new 5.3L(?) Z28s still outrun Cobras and
GTs, and guess what thegas mileage is about the same if as the pushrods,
one of the benefits of the new motors was better gas mileage supposedly,
I don't see it! If anyone has an example of the new OHC outrunning any
comparable vechicle let me know!
Chris

Interested? sure, willing to part with alot of $$$$$, a tougher situation.
I had always contemplated welding injector bosses into an aluminum intake.
What are the advantages of the sheet metal intake?
One problem, I didn't have a good answer for, was how to set up a fuel rail
with the proper spacing for the injectors. Are there universal systems
available that allow some freedom of movement for the injectors?
Has Accel dropped the price on their CPU yet?
Auburn Performance's Speedbrain seems to be the best deal out there in
aftermarket EFI.......although i did notice that they raised the price $200
from the original $500. They now sell the system for $699. It's still
pretty new.......anyone out there tried one yet?
Enough questions for now.......wish I had more answers.
later,

Gee, All this OHC bashing brings me to one question, Has every one
forgotten the 427 SOHC?????? By the way, Pontiac's OHC straight six of
the 60's was really a pretty good little motor!!!! I guess it all boils
down to personal preference.
