I had a tranny shop tell me it was the AODE but I wanted to make sure. I have been experiencing some of the same problems as the E40D guys. I was also going to attempt to hook up one of those TC unlock switches. I guess I'll have to take it in for service as it is shifting weird. As Chris said with the power I'm making I should have torn it up by now....I think I have! Wayne Foy '94 Flareside Supercab "Hazardous Material" Wayne's Flareside Page == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Feb 1999 15:53:36 -0600 From: William Zellmann Subject: FTE Perf - Compression ratio-300 I6 Hey Guys: I've been trying to find out the compression ratio of my '82 F100 300 I6. It seemed a simple question--at one time! I make it a habit to buy a factory Technical Service Manual for every vehicle I get. I've had about 6 different ones, mostly GM, but even Toyota and AMC. I picked up one for my truck at a swap meet, and found out later that I only got two volumes of the three-volume set (the emissions volume was missing). I bought a Chilton's to supplement the TSM (and get the emissions stuff). amazingly, though every statistic you can think of is included in the TSM, compression ratio is not among them. In fact, when I decided to dig out the old formula and compute it, I discovered that chamber volume wasn't included, either! I've posted the question to the 80-96 list twice, but never got an answer. Am I REALLY going to have to pull my head and CC the chambers, then compute the comp ratio? Does Ford consider the compression ratio Top Secret or something? I'd like to know how much I can mill my head--but without a starting point, I'd be guessing--and I don't like to guess. Does ANYBODY know the compression ratio of a stock '82 300 engine? Or maybe where I can find out? HELP! Davis" Subject: Re: FTE Perf - Compression ratio-300 I6 I don't know what Ford's secrets are. but in their 1987 Specifications booklet, the list the 4.9L (300cid) nominal CR as 8.8:1. this was for all L6's regardless of truck size, man or auto trans. I dont have an 82 manual, but in my '83 Engine manual they don't give the CR, but they do give the combustion chamber cc's as 73 to 79 cc. hope this helps. Thanks, I'm working from home now (on the lists) so my time is limited but I want to keep in touch with a few of the boys (and girls too) that I was talking with before. I can't handle the traffic on the main list now but will stay on this and the PfGroup list and the Bronco list of course (which is really stretching my time limits by itself :-)) I have reserved a room at Pigeon Forge in the Grand Hotel, ground floor, facing the convention center so am looking forward to May 13 and the Ford Truck Nationals this year. Hope to meet a bunch of you guys and gals there :-) I'll be driving the T bird if the stupid AODE holds up. Bronco doens't have air and I sincerely hope to bring my wife so we can pretend we're on vacation :-) Michigan Pot Hole Jumping, 78 Bronco Loving, Gary == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ End of perf-list-digest V2 #37 ****************************** +--------------- Ford Truck Enthusiasts - Performance ----------------+....
