Re: FTE Perf - Back from Vegas..... Re: FTE Perf - Lifter Preload ======================================================================= ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 30 Apr 1999 06:30:16 -0700 (PDT) From: Bill Subject: FTE Perf - The Fun Begins Well, I finally got that 351W to put in my '64 F100... just dropped the distributor off for re-curving (limit the vacuum advance, etc).. getting the headers ceramic coated... looking for the right roller rockers to put on the reworked heads (screw in LT1 studs, guide plates, performance springs, 3 angle valve job, hardened seats).. think I am gonna stay with something like Cranes stamped steel roller tipped rocker arms to keep the cost down.. (the machine shop that is doing the re-curve on the dist. suggested them since this is going to be a daily driven street truck).. I got a new Holly 1850 600cfm for free.. will start with that, but will probably look for something else... not much bigger cfm but would like an electric choke.. if the 1850 works out I will just buy the electric choke kit..(not that we need much in the need of choking in this part of Texas)... After all the good suggestions I got on what to do with the rear suspension, I have elected to go with the monoleaf rear springs... simple remove and replace option that wont break my budget... that will lower the rear about 2 to 3 inches.. combined with the 3 inch drop I already have in the front, should give the truck somewhat better handling.. but still give good ground clearance for the type of driving I do... Next will be rewiring the entire truck ... then adding AC.. but that is a job for the next budget year.... Standard procedure for adjusting preload is to put the cylinder you're adjusting at TDC. The aftermarket cam in my 460 means that cylinder's intake valve has already started to open at TDC and here I am adjusting something that should have both valves fully seated. Can somebody tell me the best method to determine when both valves are closed on individual cylinders? Does anybody know how they sound? I don't want them to sound real raspy like glasspacks. Thanks alot! _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Apr 1999 23:00:52 -0400 From: EJ Subject: FTE Perf - Back from Vegas..... Well I'm back. No such luck geting rich quick, but I had a great time nevertheless. Weather was nice the first few days, but it was rather cool and raining most of the day yesterday(Thurs). Took some pretty cool road trips when we were out there. You cant just go to gamble y'know ;). Checked out 2 really neat places. Oatman Arizona, and Zion National Park(Utah). Oatman was like a "ghost town", really interesting, almost like being in the "old west". I kept imagining one of those "ten paces turn and fire" kind of things, or being told to "get out of town by sundown" by the sheriff. Zion National Park is pretty amazing as well. Absolutely beautiful !!!. Got a snapshot of a porcupine(?) sleeping in a tree. It was also pretty cool being on highways where you can do 75 mph *legally*. Course', most of us tend to +/- 10mph, when it comes to speed limits. I *myself*, was cruising along between 75-85 out in the ol' dry desert most of the time. It's really amazing. Most people actually seem to know *how* to drive comfortably and safely along at that speed. You don't find the reckless stupidity out there that you tend to find here *all* the time. Also went to a car show at the Imperial Casino right in Vegas close to where we stayed. Had a whole room dedicated to Dusenbergs(?), pretty neat. BTW...... All you Toro guys and gals be on the lookout for a question.
