As Sleddog pointed out, 90% (probably higher) of the people who purchase SUVs never take them off-road, tow anything (even though a towing package seems to be a standard dealer install) or do much more than use a $35k piece to do what a Toyota Corolla can accomplish. They're into image and keep them awake nights lease payments, not performance. I thought the Expedition I drove was an expensive, gutless wonder. That's why I'm still driving my 460 Bronco. George Miller What I really can't understand is why Ford doesn't still produce a big cube gas motor. Perhaps CAFE won't allow it, because if they did produce such a motor everyone would buy it thereby dropping the CAFE rating dramatically a la GM and the Sub? It seems that they are forcing the diesel down many people's throats that would otherwise have preferred a 460. Anyone? It's tougher to get good emissions out of a big bore engine. Flame speed (using gasoline) just isn't high enough to make sure everything is combusted across a large diameter cylinder bore with an oversquare bore x stroke arrangement. What we will probably all start seeing is more engines like the V10, higher displacement via more cylinders, keeping the bore size small enough to get good emissions, and keeping the displacement high enough to get decent power. You probably won't see much new engine development on big V-8's anymore, I'll guess that GM will drop the 454 within the next 3-4 years in new models for the same reason. I am not sure of this however. I dont realy know. Im going buy what was stated in a haynes techbook, I have no first hand knowledge of rebuilding a c-6 although I did use it to rebuild my c-4 first time doing this wouldn't like to try again :-) .It seems to be saying that there are 3 versions for a c-6 does not tell which year or model they come out of. I just assumed that if it is a common part to fail you may be able to decide which is stronger. I have talked to my neighbor who is a border patroll agent and he would much rather drive a C# suburban than a Expedition any day, he says they are city oriented people haulers. Dont get me wrong, I will be a die hard ford fan untill the day i die, but Ford may have seen its better days. Look at the mustang, hasnt been able to stand up to the camaro untill recently, but i hear the new 4.6 in the cobra is supposed to be pretty strong. Anyway, I too am going to miss the 460, maybe Ford will see their mistake and bring up another big cube engine. Just my opinion AZ Eric '79 Bronco Custom 4x4, takes a lickin an keeps on tickin. ______________________________________________________ == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info http://www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ End of perf-list-digest V1 #177 ******************************* +--------------- Ford Truck Enthusiasts - Performance ----------------+....
