Sleddog I need to explain: Your comment:>> ok, anyone know if the sprag
is something that high perf versions are available? or only stock units

Sprag is also referred to as "overrunning" or "one way" clutches. It is a
set of roller bearings in a outer race that has a seperate cavity for each
roller and contains deep ends and shallow ends for each roller to be in and
a funny looking(accordian like) spring that tries to keep the roller in one
end of the cavity. (I can't remember which end) Inner race is the
outputshaft, I think. I can't find my parts breakdown layouts of a C6
anywhere.

That really isn't a good explaniation for it, but it is the best I can do.
Anybody want to jump in here and explain it.???

If there are High performance versions, I am not aware of it.

thanks azie. i know what a sprag is by definition and many of the designs
around i am aware of in other equipement too. i just never saw a listing
for a performance one, or heavy duty one, for a C6, or actually any ford.
the only listing i think i have ever seen one for is a powerglide tranny.
and although i have thought of the possibility of using a powerglide for
its tendency to rob less HP, i still am running a c6.

(i at this point don't think a powerglide would hold up, as the C6 doesn't
even hold up.)

so, if when i disassemble i find the srag to be the culprit, i think it
would be wise to replace it with a better piece.

usually for truck pulling, the parts to go are the planetaries, as the
aluminum case (basket?) just breaks apart. there is usually a warning
though of aluminum in oil filter before it completely goes. similiar
trucks are getting 20 or so pulls to a rebuild. i should have been able to
get at least 40 IMO, as i was running less rpms, and lower power in a
underweight truck. so the fact that there is even a problem with the
tranny shocked me. since i found no alum. in the oil, it surprised me more
as that is what i expected to see. anyway....(the tranny had at least 10
pulls on it before i got it. maybe this is my punishment for building a
truck almost completely from used parts...)

later days,
sleddog
