I don't know the small blocks that well. Is your Ranger 4x4? If not, you
might consider a 302/5spd from a Mustang. There are several companies that
specialize in that conversion. Some are on the web. The C4s are also
popular behind the 302/351Ws.

Point your browser to Advance Adaptors website at
http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.advanceadapters.com/Ford/Ford.html It'll give you all the
info you need; but they'll tell you the tranny is marginal at best for a
302, your best bet would be to use one from a Mustang. The additional
cost of the tranny swap is why I'll (probably) rebuild and modify my V-6
rather than swap out for a V-8

Glad to know I'm not the only one around that hates being 'shiftless'
