I have a 1987 F-150 Supercab I bought brand new. Well it's time to have some fun!!! It currently has a 302 EFI and a manual 4-speed trans. I have found a 1976 Merc. wagon with a 460 and a C-6 trans. Its Runs and all the parts are there. I have done a little research and have found it is 8.5 to 1 CR, a little low I think? I want to completly go through Motor and Trans. adding HP via cam and head work ,headers, high rise and??? + plus a shift kit for the tranmission. My question is .. Am I starting with the right engine and does anyone have any advice or sugguestions. All the brackets , PS, AC, Air Pump, ect. are still intact. When finished my truck it will still have to pass emissions. WANT HP, CHRIS IN ALBUQUERQUE 1987 FORD F-150SC 1997 PONTIAC BONN. This originated when I didn't have time to clean my truly dirty K&N air filter and used the paper element. At the time, it looked like the paper element was keeping my oil looking cleaner (the scientific test) than the K&N had accomplished. I ran the K&N for 1,000 miles after an oil/filter change. I then changed the oil/filter and ran the paper element for 1,000 miles. Oil was much cleaner with the paper element and the oil filter seemed heavier (wish I had weighed them). Driving was all in town, with the usual stop, go and clean it out every once in awhile. I like my oil to look clean, it bothers me when I think about additional matter getting between those expensive engine bearing surfaces. K&N claims their filter gets better the dirtier it gets and additional HP from the increased air flow. IMHO, there is no free lunch. Pollution standards legislation tightened up year by year as the feds forced Motor City to meet average mpg requirements. Now if you decided to register it in a place that doesn't beg to get at the federal highway funding pig trough, you're getting interested in making a truck. Good combination and you're right about the c/r.
