JMHO >John Miller, FoMoCoNUT Thanks John. I've heard from another person that says the Dynagear Roller is the same as the Cloyes - just in a different box. I've never looked closely at a Dynagear or a Cloyes, but at $41 for the Dynagear and $73 for the Cloyes this requires further study :) Thanks again Mike _____________________________________________ Email: mschwall Home Page: http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://mschwall.home.texas.net FORD FAN PAGE: http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://www.fordfan.org == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Aug 1998 19:14:26 -0500 From: Mike Schwall Subject: FTE Perf - ARP Bolt Question Some of you may get duplicate emails since I posted this question on the Fordnatics list as well. I ordered a set of ARP ring gear bolts from PAW. They arrived today and they are shorter than the OEM bolts (Ford 9"). I called up the ARP tech help and the guy asked about the application and which bolts I bought. The ARP's (#250-3003) only have 1/4" of thread showing that goes into the ring gear and the OEM bolts have 3/8" of thread showing on the ring gear side of the carrier. The tech guy couldn't believe that after 15 years of selling that bolt that I am the first to call and ask about the bolt length problem. He suggested that I buy two packs of ARP flywheel bolts (#100-2801) and send the others back. The flywheel bolts are a 1/16" longer than OEM. I don't like the idea that only 1/4" of bolt is going into the ring gear. Has anyone run into this problem? Better question would be: How close should it be to the Water Pump. That fan puts a big load on the H2O Pump so the closer that you can get it to the bearing the better for the pump. Ford put mine about 6-7" from the Radiator, and 2" from the pump. Timing Chains Cloyes chains have been the Hi-Pro chain of choice forever. I have been using them for 20 years with vary good results, so there you go. Really want the best drive? Switch to a belt drive. 400's. Have yet to read the article, or find the Mag. I more then agree that Peterson publications are highly suspect when it comes to Tech. Info. Which explains my lack of subscriptions! So I'll have to wait until I can get a copy. My engine should be hitting the dyno late this month or early Sept. When that happens and after I have had a chance to crunch the data I'll share real and complete data. - ->Before Chris jumps all over me, there are valid exceptions. Jump People... George, please... FYI: There is a High Pro Engine Building class forming up in Portland, Oregon. Actual dates have not been set yet, as the class starts when it is full (I'd expect mid-Oct.) I have taken this class, and will again; so I must feel it is worth it. I have not seen the price yet but I'll guess that it will be $1.5-2K. When the cost is factored by the information and the fact that there were 200+ class room hours this is an economical education. (my last CAD class was $500 for 4.5 Hrs.) If you live with in a reasonable commute of PDX and are interested please contact me privately and I'll forward your address to the instructor. Serious inquiries only please:) DISCLAIMER: I make nothing from this class. I simply feel that it is a good investment for any gear head even if it has a moderate GM bias. You will learn more then most know about every component in an engine and what it actually takes to get power out of an engine. You will also learn just how much you didn't know!!!
