And they say it is a dry heat, my ***. Anyway, what effect does this drastic change in humidity do to an engine. My 74 did not want to start or run worth a s*** today, actually, it hasn't run very well the last three days. Every bit helps! lordjanusz I have a remote oil filter and cooler and, according to Ford Motorsport and others, that cools only the oil, not the heads/block. We're talking pulling the engine to r&r the headers. Zilch clearance. Does anybody have any experience with running one of the aftermarket electric fans with the 460? I NEED A REAR END ... or at least some info ... I have a 53F250 that i want to put a new rear end ..or at least newer . I have the stock one but dont think it will hold up to the motor and tranny i plan to put in place of the 6cyl and manual trans.. My question is this ... Is there a rear end out of a 70's ford truck that will bolt in place of my stock one or do i have to do a little relocating of springs and such ??.. i would really like to not move whats already there but if needs be then so be it .. I am in the proccess of blasting the frame clean and now is as good a time as any to do such work ... right ?? ... well thanks in advance '73-86 1/2T pickups and '78-86 Broncos are all 9" w/31 spline axles, 65-1/4" flange to flange. '66-77 Broncos 58" Some '69-77 Lincoln/Galaxie are 9", 31 spline. If it has disc brakes, it's normally a 28 spliner. If you get lucky, big block 1/2T p/u, cars w/towing package and high performance 351C cars, Mustangs and Torinos will have the 9" 31 spliners in nodular cases. They're real scarce and boneyards know the values. If you're going to shorten the flanges/axles to fit your rig, be sure and get the 31 spline variety. The 28 spline axle is weaker, and because the shaft is tapered, it can't be shortened/resplined. Don't know about spring perch mount compatibility (only the p/u/Bronco will have spring perches) but one of those would handle most any engine/trans combo. Measure your existing axle and see what will work. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Jul 1998 17:45:16 -0500 From: "Dale and Donna Carmine" Subject: FTE Perf - air cleaners Hi all, I have picked up a e-brock performer and my carb should arrive anyday now. These will go on a basically stock 351M. I need some ideas on what I can do for an air cleaner. I would like to keep the hot air riser for better winter performance but I want an air cleaner that will flow more air. Does anyone know which stock air cleaners would be lowest restriction and commonly available from the junkyard? Personally I chucked the stock cleaner and went with edelbrock 14"x3" deal. Sorry I cant help you with the stock setup. dar6 78 Bronco Ranger XLT (460 powered) == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html The original air cleaner from my 351W with that strange carb fit on both a Carter 625cfm and Edelbrock 750cfm (same tooling). I'd think, as Darryl pointed out about looking at the clearance for the the electric choke and maybe using a spacer, that almost any aircleaner from a 351W P/U or Bronco about '80-86 would work. Probably many others as carb throats are common dimensions. I also use the 3"x14". It'll make your air filter changes, again assuming you're not subject to Big Brother's Taxes on letting industry be our sole air polluters, much cheaper. Or you can go with a K&N unit that doesn't break the wallet real bad after initial purchase. == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Jul 1998 23:44:37 EDT From: Trs2000 Subject: FTE Perf - proportioning valve compatability? Does anyone know what years truck have the same proportioning valve as a 73 f100 2wd? I found a 76 f150 ? Don't want/expect a lot, but something better than the 9-11 mpg hwy would be nice (say, 11- 14??). What are you all getting with your F-250 trucks (351 by the way)? Is this normal? A little more power would be nice also. plugs/fuel filter are new, timing is right (I actually advanced it, which helped from 10 degrees to approx 14. I use super). Will a K&N help? Any performance/mileage type chips out there? Recommendations? == FTE: Uns*bscribe and posting info www.ford-trucks.com/faq.html....
