In 1976 when you ordered an F350 460/C6 camper special, 4.10 was only
gear available. FYI, my tires are 9.5X16.5 radials, approx. 30.5 inches
in diameter. So you think 3.5 is tall enough?

With slide-in camper loaded (9.5K GVW), brakes are marginal, IMHO. Has
anyone made any upgrades they'd like to mention? Has anyone done a swap
to the new rear disk set-up? Thanks for your advise/recommendations.

Yo Bill:

Oops!! You're right. I was going from (somewhat) faulty memory. The
EEC-IV was first used in 1984. The EEC-III was used from 1979 to 1983.
All pre-'84 CFI vehicles used the EEC-III system.

Can anyone tell me if the 6.8 l is simply the 5.4 with two extra cylinders?
Is the front of the block identical? Can brackets designed for the
5.4 l be used on the 6.8?

thanks

I had mentioned a couple of weeks ago that we would have
a prize pack for the winning t-shirt design. I forgot
to announce what the prize would be. It will include the
following:

a. free FTE t-shirt, hot off the press
b. 2 FTE window stickers
c. 1 meg web site space (http://www.ford-trucks.com/yourname)
for 1 year
d. email address (yourname ford-trucks.com) for 1 year. If you
already have one, you can have a second or have your 2nd
year for free.

If we can think of more, we'll add it.

I would suggest a rear sway bar also, and to compensate use a 70/30 shock.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I don't want to spend too much on my
vehicle at one time. I'm going to try and budget out my modifications
throughout the year. I think I'm going to go with the Edelbrock IAS
shocks. They don't perform quite as well overall as the Racho 9000s but
from the comments I've heard here and on the web, the IAS shocks will give
me better ride around town, where I will be spending most of my time. I
was definately thinking of changing the springs, and a sway bar would
proabaly help too. I know the Explorer has leaf springs in the back, is
there a simple way to change the rears to use real springs instead? Do you
normally have to get a different axle and then the springs on top of that?
I'm taking a pot shot in the dark on this one.

By the way, for anyone interested, K&N has a FIPK for the '98 Explorers in
the works. They have submitted the FIPK for C.A.R.B. certification and
they say it should probably pass and get the exemption number late this
year.
