PAW and Lanauti Racing offer big cube packages exceeding 520 CID if you want a bruser. best thing to do is get a set of dome top 11:1 pistons have the heads pocket ported and matched with the biggest valves you can get in them have the engine balanced and call comp for cam suggestions. They would like to distribute their catalog, free of charge, to anyone on our list who is interested. In addition, there was an offer to promote them on our web site. This company is a very well respected member of the Ford antique "community" and I have no reason to believe they want to influence our membership. They simply want to take advantage of the fact that our site receives 250+ Ford truck visitors a day. I wanted to bring this to the attention of the list members since I've always kept list business and finances in the open. I'm in favor of letting them advertise on the web page only - not on the lists (they made no mention of advertising on or influencing the lists). Thanks to the kindness of many members the email list expenses are paid up for this quarter (up in a month) and most of next quarter. I would like to offer this company an opportunity to advertise on our page, covering list expenses so our membership doesn't have to. List expenses are an on-going item that I would rather not have to beg the members about. I would also like to try to arrange a group purchase discount with this company since they seem eager to deal with us. I haven't actually discussed any terms with this company as I wanted to approach the membership first. Please be prompt with your opinions as I would like to get in touch with them ASAP. What does everyone think about this? It seems like a win-win situation to me. This method would prevent us from having to depend on a small minority to pay our expenses. If it seems okay to the membership, I'll reveal the company name and set up an on-line form you can use to enter your mailing address in. These would be forwarded to them so you could get your free parts catalog. As a side note, now that everything has settled down with having the baby, finishing touches are being added to our window sticker design and I've contacted a couple of companies for pricing. BTW - you really won't loose any torque using the bigger = port CJ head with 460 or more cubes, you'll just gain it in the 4500 and = up area. ford sells an aluminum CJ head still. port match a good intake - weind stealth, or the one in the ford = motorsprts catalogue will do. both are dual plane but the weind is the = better choice for 3000 to 6500 rpm (estimate). toss on a 750 cfm carb = and you're almost ready to rock. i have here a 750 holley vacuum sec. = that's worked to flow over 900 cfm's. this carb gives invredible = throttle response from idle up and still feeds a 460 as high as you'll = spin it with a dual plane intake and stock heads. i prefer MSD ignition, but i feel that a good destributer and ford box = is usually sufficiant. 460's like 38-40 total timing coming in full not = far from idle. oh, the cam. you'll probably want hydraulic, but solid or hyd., a = duration advertised of 280-295 and lifts in the 0.525-0.560 range work = very well and still have good vacuum at idle, though a liittle rough = idle. headers are a must. 1 7/8 dia minimum and if you got the room, go 3" = exhaust dia. these motors need all the help they can get on the exhaust = side as the ports are very restrictive. if you want another good item is roller rockers. harland sharp sells = the "cheapest ones", under 200 bucks from summit. they have the "good" = ratio of 1.73 and have worked very well for me for several years. to = use these the heads need to be machined for screw in rockers and guide = plates (not the early heads though) or crane sells a kit for pedestal = mount for about $50. ford also sells roller rockers for pedestal mount, = but they cost big $$$. now, if you get really serious blue thunder makes heads for the 460 that = along with a 514 or larger stroker kit and a "mild" cam (like the ones = mentioned above), good headers and single plane intake, dominater carb = and good ignition your motor will be busting axles with its 650 hp and a = mountain of torque. for $4000 engine systems will sell the heads = complete and fully race ported and manifold matched. on a mild motor = this alone can boost power almost like squeezing the blue juice bottle! = never underestimate the heads, they are the most important part in = making substantial power on any engine. feel free to ask about anything = i may have left out. sleddog ---------- From: jniolon Sent: Tuesday, July 15, 1997 6:24 AM To: fordtrucks Subject: project truck O.K. all you Ford experts, =20 Here's my project...what are your suggestions" =20 A 53 ford pickup with a '75 8.2:1 C.R.
