I average about 14-15 MPG. I highly recommend getting the LS rear end. Atleast where I live (WA state), I end up getting the rear end unloaded on one side a lot due to turning on hills and the LS rear end has been great. You will find out the LS rear end will be great while 4x4ing. I can go a lot of places in 2wd that people with open differentials have to go into 4wd to get through. Overall, spending the extra $700 is well worth the money in driveability. WHat affects the MPG with the 5.4L is how hard you drive the truck (ie, how much gas you give it starting from a dead stop). If you treat the truck like a car, you mileage will suffer considerably. If you just take it easy, it will get 15+ MPG. I Have gotten as high as 20 MPG on the highway. I recommend the 5.4L if you plan on doing any towing. I have heard a lot of people that got the 4.6L in the Expeditions and have regretted it. Most of them bought a second Expedition and got the 5.4L the second time around. Chris "Thermo" Coleman Joe wrote: I am considering purchasing a 2000 4X4 F-150. Should I spend the extra money to get the 3.55 LS rear end, and approximately how much fuel efficiency is lost by jumping up to the 5.4 in this setup? Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Sounds like you have something wrong or Ford really screwed up on these new motors. OX snip------ No kidding....my 94 F250 same combination as OX's gets 13-15 highway and 11-12 at least in a mix of driving.
