Looking to begin the mods on my 88 F-350 crew cab 4x4. Does anyone have any
advice or opinions on a shackle flip in the rear, shackle reversal in the
front with some 2 inch springs, and probably about a 2 inch body lift???
Also, what are some real good webistes concerning theses trucks. I am
certainly not new to offroading (had a really nice CJ8) but am looking to
learn as much as i can about this truck, any help is greatly appreciated, as
well as other ideas i may have not thought of or suggenstions on what you
would do if it were yours,

Thanks

Tom

Hmmh, Nice truck, with the FI 460 and 5 spd that is basically my ideal tow
rig. Shackle flip in the rear is a great idea in my opinion, My buddy has
had it on his Blazer for about a year with no problems, and I am about to do
it on my 79 F250. I picked up some leaf spring hangers (the front mount for
the rear leafs) from a junk yard for pretty cheap. Now I just need to find
some time to remove the old ones off my truck and bolt these up. I'm sure
I'll probably have to use some degree shims on the axle to correct the
pinion angle, but that's not a big deal at all.
Shackle reversal in the front is defenitely cool, I was foing to use
that same basic concept to convert my 88
Bronco to leaf spring solid axle
front. For you it's pretty much a bolt on too. Right now I'm looking into
doing a similar thing to my 79 F250. I already have the shackle in the rear
of the front leafs, but I have extended that shackle 4" to get 2" of lift,
and I am now working on fabricating new front hangers that will place the
spring 3-4" lower, for another 1.5-2" of lift.
All total I'll wind up with about 4" of lift in the front for pretty
cheap. The shackles only cost me around $30 with cross braces and
everything for stability. I'm guessing the drop brackets are gonna run me
about $100 or so.
I'd say you're defenitley on the right track for lifting it cheap,
although you might want to look into having a GOOD fabricator make you the
shackle reversal, as offroadunlimited is pretty pricey.
Then all you're gonna need is new shocks, with 4" of lift you can
probly get away with using the stock brake lines. Oh, and correct the
steering too, I haven't done that on mine yet and it shimmies pretty bad,

that'll be next weeks project. See ya.

How would you correct the steering? I've gone up about 8 inches and
mine shimmy's like crazy with 40" grownd hawgs (with about 2 lb's of weights
to get them balanced). I have the superlift adjustable traction bar, 2
shocks per wheel, 2 shocks on the steering linkage, 4" drop pitman arm, and
new tie rod ends. I'm going to get needle bearing steering shaft, but
that's when I get the money. Any other suggestions?
