At least read the label on the sun visor for cryin' out loud! Like the old C-4 trans falling into R from P debacle. I've seen it happen numerous times in various shops; do I sue Ford if it rams the shop door? Hell no. I ask why I didn't set the brake or use wheel chocks if the brake didn't feel good. > > If I pull 10g's in a King Air that I'm flying, Nice aircraft but I don't think it was designed for acrobatics! > or exceed any other aircraft > limitation, why should Beech be held responsible for my level of competency > as a pilot. One notable difference though; the limits are published and/or classified into groups for aircraft (and depending on load the limits are de-rated) while ground vehicles are only rated by GVWR/GAWR. Hopefully if you see an obstacle in your path with the King Air the evasive action will be less rapid than if you were in a Pitts to avoid stressing the airframe (but still clear it of course!) For those not familliar with planes let's call the King Air an Excursion and the Pitts a Mustang. (Hmm.. maybe substitute P-51 for Pitts so it'd be Mustang both ways! the expensive of responsiveness and the 'tangs aren't as comfortable but will change direction quickly and capably. (BTW remember the old nick-name for the Beech Bonanza? FTDK.) If road vehicles were aircraft we'd have instruments for G-force and established limits not to be exceedeed. (Yeah.. right.. like the average Joe on the road can handle any more instruments beyond speed and gas.) For the B-II there'd be a warning to not exceed over 0.X G in transitional lateral movements and SUVs might require a license attachment or even semi-annual physical exams for the operator. The point is to select your vehicle for it's intended use. Get a Mustang if you want to whip around the road or get an Ex(whichever) to haul the kids or whatever you do with that space but KNOW the price you pay for that space. Yes there are known faults in aircraft designs as well; just like we have TSBs aircraft have ADs (Airworthiness Directive); but these carry official weight and MUST be attended to before further operation unlike road vehicles. A case in point would be the 'jackscrew' issue from the recent airliner crash; if this proves to be the cause then yes some litagation *might* be appropriate but which Company do you sue? Not being a money grubber I'd leave it alone and my loved one(s) peacefully at rest. > Or if I check my gun by looking down the barrel and pulling the > trigger to see if it is loaded, should SigSauer be held responsible for the > stupidity of my actions. Given S&W's recent sell-out to the Gov't position probably so... I own a handgun made by a company now out of business due to it's weak safety. Some idiot dropped a cocked & locked one and was gut shot by it and the family sued. Forgive me if I'm wrong but unless you KNOW you're in harms way why should there be a live round in the chamber unless it's preparedness but even then knowing it's live CARE should be used in it's handling. (FWIW there are 2 fully ready handguns in the house and one has *no* operational safety and the other just needs the safety wiped 'off' to fire if the situation we hope doesn't happen does occur...) > I, for one am tired of paying (in higher prices and taxes) for every mistake > that someone makes and then attempts to hold someone else accountable for the > consequences. > > Steve Amen! And not just limited to product liability but lifestyle choices as well in my case. I am what I am and I have to deal with it; you(they) are what they are and I shouldn't have to support it. ANYways.. the weekend beckons; let's get off this and go back to our favorite trails or other off-road pursuits. ;-) Tim ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://www.ford-trucks.com//lc/lc.php?action=do&link=http://webmail.netscape.com. ------------------------------ Date: 18 Mar 00 20:12:44 EST From: Tim Turner Subject: Re: [Re: [BIRTHDAY WANTS.....]] Bad4dFilly > All I want is this: A chrome bar that has a single or > double hoop and single kickers that attach to the side of the bed that has > lights on the top of the bar. My fault; not having a bed on the B-II I was thinking of the roof mounted type of light bar. Probably one of the best I've ever had. Only lasted about an hour but definitely awesome. It started off with 15 people piling into 5 trucks which go like this from biggest to smallest: -late 70's Ch*vy 1 ton; 39" Super Swamper TSL's; driven by "Lucky" -late 70's Ch*vy 1 ton; 35" Super Swamper Thornbirds; driven by "Daytona" -early 80's Ch*vy 3/4 ton; 35" Goodyear Wrangler MT's; driven by "Wet Willy" a.k.a "Junior" -early 80's Ch*vy 1/2 ton; 32" Goodyear's; driven by "Stick" -95' Ford F-150; 31" Goodyear Wrangler MT's; driven by "Jason"; (I'm here of course) It's been raining all day today (Sat.) and off and on yesterday. So we all jump in the trucks to make a run we call the "loop" jus' cuz it makes a fun kinda circle of mud roads. Well, we hit the first road, 94th and get down it without a hitch until we get to "P road" where "Daytona" is goin' to fast to make the turn and hits the ditch. But this is no problem because "Wet Willy" has him pulled out in no time. But, "Stick" has taken off ahead of everyone else by quit a ways. So now he's lost. Well, we figured we'd catch up with them eventually. We head on down "P" road, across 110th and up to 118th. This is were it gets hairy, but not the 4 wheelin' part. "Lucky" and "Wet Willy" are missing. We get half way down 118th, "Daytona" and us (in the Ford) stop and talk about what we're gonna do. We decide we'll continue the "loop" and then do it over again and hopefully find them somewhere on the way. This is just fine but Sam, another guy riding with us in the Ford decides he's gonna get out of the truck and literally run back to "P" road to find "Lucky" and "Wet Willy". And being as dumb as we are, we let him go by himself. We get back to the beginning of the "loop" and head down "P" road once again. At the top of the first hill we find "Stick". We decide that he will head back to the house and we'll continue on to look for "Lucky" and "Wet Willy". We get to 118th again and about a 1/4 of the way down the road, we see lights, but these are the last lights we expected to see, red and blue flashers (and yes this is on the mud road) Both of the trucks stop and the drivers go talk to the cop for a little bit, and then 3 more sets (yes 3) of red and blue cherries show up. So now we're parked on a mud road talking to about 7 cops. In case you were wondering, 2 Dodge pickup cops, 1 Ford pickup cop, and a Crown Vic (he stopped at the end of the road where it was gravel). They took our licenses and ran checks on everybody. Then they (the cops who had picked him up shortly after we left him) returned Sam back to the truck from witch he should have been in. They did a minor search on the vehicles, gave the drivers a lecture and set us on our way. They informed us that there is an ordinance in Jackson County, Kansas that says "any vehicle may not be on any low maintenance road during wet conditions". If we had indeed known this before we went wheelin' we would have not gone into Jackson County. After leaving 118th we hit a gravel road on our way back to Shawnee County. This is where we found "Wet Willy" goin' the other direction. So we told him that it would not be a good idea to go that way. We went back to "Daytona's" house where "Stick" is and there, we also found "Lucky". We then got the scoop on "Lucky" and "Wet Willy". "Wet Willy" had ran a stop sign on a gravel road and one of the cops stopped him them. They were good enough only to give him a warning. "Lucky", who was behind "Wet Willy" when he ran the stop sign, saw the cop before he too ran the sign. Since it wasn't a "low maintenance road" and he did stop at the sign, the cops didn't stop him and he headed on back to "Daytona's" house. The point of this is to hopefully inform some of you out there that there are ordinances about 4 wheelin' on county roads and they DO have the cop "cars" to pull you over. Take my advice and check on those laws. Also, don't be dumba**'s like us and leave somebody by themselves on a mud road at 10:30 at night in 30 degree weather. -Brian Sack ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Mar 2000 08:22:51 -0800 From: Adam McLaughlin Subject: Re: Ford and The Law Bas, What kind of bronco do you have?
