I won't go into details, but I'm asking all the Ford Truck

the site (www.ford-trucks.com) and click on the "Scooter"

deserves your attention and a couple of minutes of your time

Because your tires are modern Goodyears it is extremely unlikely they are out
of round.  Although it's possible one tire could be out of round it's
virtually impossible, or to be more tactful, it's almost virtually impossible
that more than one is out of round.

It's pretty easy to check at the local Goodyear Store using a dial indicator.
Have them check the runout of the tread.  What is more likely is a bent rim
or an unbalanced tire rim combination.  Alignment is another potential cause
but it's pretty low on the probability list.

If you have been off-roading I would carefully check for a bent rim or two.
Goodyear can also do this for you by putting the wheel on the balance
machine.  Have them spin the wheel/tire slowly with the guard raised and
watch for wheel wobble.  If it wobbles it's probably bent.

Good luck,
Butch

Butch:

Thanks for the input.  I will take your advice and go to Goodyear and have
them check the tires.  We tried checking if the rim was bent on the
balancing machine, but the two we tried seem to run true.  I have done some
logging road driving, but don't remember really hitting any hard bumps.
Just rocky roads.

Have you noticed in the past two months that the number of emails on this
email list have diminished?  Like to almost zero.  I used to get half a
dozen a day and now less than half a dozen a month.  All I get are the
advices from Ken re: the web page.  Ken says I am still on the list and
can't explain the lack of messages.

Again, thanks.

Ian...

I have a '98 F-150 SC LB, so it's not a direct comparison, but I put
Michelins on after 40k on the original General Tires.  I'm at 60K now and
the Michelins look and ride like new.

I had a similar tire balance experience with Goodyear tires on a Mercury
Sable.  It was caused by the radial belts slipping after a couple panic
stops (deer don't know how to yield the right of way). Goodyear replaced
the first set at around 5K.  I ended up switching that car to Michelins,
too, with no further problems.

You might consider B.F. Goodrich, too.
