Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2000 17:59:16 -0400 Well Jay Here is my story. I own a 99 Ranger which has had a problem from day 1. The engine has spark knock. It has been in the shop over 15 times and Ford has replace almost every emission component. I bought the extended warranty so all parts were covered both by the standard and extended. The truck still has the problem and Ford basically refuses to fix it. They did however extend my warranty to cover 5 years 100K miles. (Go figure, they say there is nothing wrong yet they up my warranty) -----Original Message----- From: 97up-list-bounce [mailto:97up-list-bounce Sent: Monday, August 21, 2000 9:03 AM To: 97up-list Subject: [97up-list] should I buy the extended warranty? I recently bought myself a 98 F150 4x4 Off Road, and it is an awesome truck, I love it. :) When I bought it, there were 28,000 miles on the truck, so it was still under the factory warranty, I was trying to make a certain payment, so I skipped the $1100 or so extended warranty. After a few months of ownership, I am rapidly approaching the magical 36,000 mile mark where my warranty runs out, and the price of an extended warranty goes through the roof. So, should I go ahead with the extended warranty now? The truck is running just fine, and I can't find a thing wrong that would require a trip to the dealer at this point. On the flipside, though, fixing anything on the truck will be expensive after this. Any comments/suggestions from anyone else who has or hasn't gotten the extended warranty? Did you need it? Date: Wed, 23 Aug 2000 15:18:09 -0700 This thread has gotten me thinking about extended warranties now. It's always been in the back of my mind since I purchased the truck but I didn't want to shell out the extra $1,600 at the time. Does anyone have any suggestions on other companies selling extended warranties? Someone mentioned that they were considerably cheaper than Ford. Do these companies offer this service in Canada?
